I still question an individuals sanity if they are buying a laptop for gaming and they do not need the portability. most of the insane individuals I meet want to buy Alienware laptops... I point them towards Asus's ROG or MSI Dragon Edition laptops but tell them the truth about how useless gaming laptops are and that a desktop will always be a better value for the money. Then I proceed to point them towards linustechtips.com :D there is only so much I can do for those people...
My thoughts exactly. True, portability can be a big advantage (if you actually need it), but it is incredibly darned expensive.
I mean: "Oh your $5000 laptop can run high end requirement games. That's cute. My $3000 homebuilt desktop runs these same games at 200fps." (Note: these are "reference" numbers from what notebooks and desktops tends to cost in comparison. I don't live on the USA but I figure they aren't THAT expensive there. I hope.)
Not to mention no laptop, regardless of how well engineered it might be, can't last too long playing games on battery, so it isn't THAT portable either.
Always talking about homebuilt desktops, if someone says "well I'll buy an Alienware desktop then" it'd take me a big share of willpower to not laugh on his face.
What type of laptops are you looking at? I could get a awesome laptop for like 2000, and 3000 for a high end desktop more like 1500. You shouldn't use Falcon-nw.com to buy a good PC just buy the parts and build it.
Yeah, after I made that comment I made some quick math and saw how much my local currency and import taxes got me confused xP
You could indeed get a computer like the one I'm using right now (posted my specs in the main page, as I've recently upgraded) for $1500 or likely less money. In the USA. These same components here cost... more. Safe to say 2x that money, thanks mostly to these *insert heavily aggressive insults here* customs.
For example: You know there's something seriously wrong when both the AMD FX 8350 and the Intel i5 3570 SHARE THE SAME PRICE TAG. And that price tag is 310 dollars. South America ftl
True, anybody can build a Gaming PC with that much power or more and save a few hundred dollars on it.
When I bought my Alienware I actually saved money because they were having a discount promotion. I still wish I hadn't bought it though.
