Zombie Grinder is the debut game of TwinDrills, an indie game development duo made up of Tim 'Infini' Leonard and Jordan 'Jordizzle' Chewning. It's a multi-platform (windows, mac, Linux!) (also Free!) cooperative multiplayer arcade game, reminiscent in style and gameplay of retro games like 'Zombies Ate My Neighbors' and 'Super Smash TV!', but with the added benefit of some newer game mechanics - achievements, ranking, player-customization, rpg style stats and so forth. The game sports a variety of different game modes, from co-operative 'campaign' style levels, to wave maps and even the classic 'pvp' style game modes - deathmatch, capture the 'bag' and so forth. All of these mods are bristling with a variety of weapons and items, all lovingly displayed in Jordan's classic quirky pixel-art style.

I'm wondering what the logic is behind blocking off certain areas of the campaign maps, in spite of not placing the player further into the map.

I died whilst playing the first level of the campaign, and previously I simply re-played the level and gathered weapons and items as I did before.

However this time certain critical areas were blocked off, yet I wasn't progressed beyond those areas.

What gives?

Am I honestly being punished for not finishing the level the first time?

So I am effectively denied weapons, items, etc in spite of having to fight the same number of enemies?

I'm really hoping this has nothing to do with level progression, because that's awful.

And by awful I'm trying to be diplomatic and say that its balls out retarded.

The map has some variability to it. Its kinda like left for dead, one way might be blocked but if it is there is always another. ;)

Yup! ^^ The map's path is randomly selected each playthrough. One run may have the lower path by the soda machine open, while another places logs in front of it. We wanted to emulate L4D's AI director or whatever for our campaign. It's not meant to punish anybody. Each path has it's own perks, some just happen to be not as good as others (i.e. no buff machine, or armor)
