Since MOBA things are sorta highly popular, why not?

-All selectable planes are 'heroes' version (aces, in this case, superplanes counts too), their background could be inspired from Ace Combat aces anyway and at least have a special ability
-Both team have an airbase as spawn point, a command center (?) to protect
-Creeps in form of grunt planes (lesser planes), ground units, bombers (sometimes) and helos
-Maps are divided in waypoints (capture points), lead the ground units there to expand team's territory (i.e your team could build an outpost there, ground units can spawn from there)
-Towers in form of AA defenses and such and artilleries
-Land on own airbase to repair, rearm, upgrade plane and even change special weapon and/or equip different special
-Monetary system to rearm and purchase special weapon/skill/upgrades(?)
-Optional setting to involve neutral mercenary team that attacks any faction at random (your team can put bounty on opposing team to make the mercs go after them)

Another version of this MOBA mode replaces the base with airborne fortresses and/or naval combat, especially if the battle takes place in seas or such. Or maybe mixed; one team starts with a naval battle group and the other with airbase or airborne fortress and vice versa.

A couple of questions:
-can the player change unit during mid battle?
-in a battle of 8 vs 8 “players” how many grunt planes should there be? is there a limit?
-does the players need to purchase their assistance or they are free/automatic?
-Looking at this game mode rules, the maps must be done especially for this mode, does the defense towers are added in the map or they are added by the players?
-Assuming the purchase system is a window that pop up by pressing the button, can be used anywhere or it has some restrictions?

1. Could be a bit complicated, but I think you should be able to 'buy' new planes to make things more interesting.
2. Should depends on how many waypoints your team has (i.e how far your team have 'conquered' the battlefield)
3.What assistance? If you mean by grunt units, they automatically respawns on regular basis. 'Larger' objects like warships takes longer to respawn.
4.Not necessary, the 'towers' are basically slightly glorified normal SAMs and other stationary defensive batteries. They automatically spawns at the waypoint once your team capture a waypoint, and respawns if its dead (assuming your team still hold the waypoint)
5.Should be 'safely' used after landing, I think. Moreover it involves upgrading plane, repair and rearm, buy/sell things, etc

Oh, to accomodate the no.1 change, in the beginning of the match, players pick a character (read: ace, every character have different stats and perks) with a preset plane (every character has different starting plane). Every character have different planeset to buy/choose depends on their specialization (i.e reconnasiance specialist, dogfight/interceptor specialist, close air support specialist, jammer/electronic warfare specialist, etc).

I was totally going to suggest something like this a year ago and then forgot about it. I think it might actually work better than regular MOBAs because you're actually flying a plane instead of clicking buttons over and over, meaning an inferior plane might have more of a chance of beating a superior one and using the reward money to catch up.

Didn't read through this very thoroughly the first time through, but on second glance, this game mode seems like it'd be really fun to play. It avoids turning multiplayer into a tail chase by making ground forces an important part of the mission.

I mean, I enjoyed playing multiplayer Ace Combat back in the day (I'm mostly talking from experiencing the PS2 titles), but it's difficult to have fun when there's nothing to do but keep turning to try to get on the other guy's tail, which is difficult when flying similar aircraft.

On other thing: the "towers" could be literally anything of strategic value. For example, on a land map one "tower" could be a radar station, another could be a missile base, and a third could be part of a pipeline. They don't have to be identical buildings as long as towers opposite from each other are equally difficult to destroy (due to hitpoints, terrain, stationary defenses nearby, etc.)
