Even in its early days, Althas has been a land shaken by conflicts. In the early days, these conflicts pitted the Anointed Kingdoms of Men against the dark and demonic forces that threatened them. However, with the passage of time the world has changed. With the Anointed order eroding away and new powers rising, another war looms on the horizon, a war brought on by Man's own actions. Thenodar, a burgeoning new kingdom in the North, and Anorthile, one of the last of the three remaining Anointed Kingdoms, now prepare for a war that will shake all of Althas. Old demons and new enemies gather in the shadows of both lands as each sets their sights on the ruined wilderness known as the Feralands.
The captial city of Anorthile, Thaivaros. In the center, atop the hill, is Thal Shiath, where the Academy and Temple rests.
I can't feel the Edoras inspiration at all /sarcasm :P
Although I don't see any kind of a river or stream and usually cities are built near water...
Great work though and I love how I can see "LotR inspired" here and there. This will be one awesome game to play!
There is a river that springs out of the rock and flows south. As in away from the camera, so it is behind the city. There are other rivers in the vale as well.
It has some Edoras, but the final version of the city will be more like Athens meets Gondor. I think you guys are gonna like it. Also, a lore update is coming soon to go with this, so stay tuned ;)
If I zoom in, it looks like there is in fact a river or water-filled moat surrounding the city and there are some blue-ish lines that could be rivers. The city is just that big that these are very small and difficult to spot.
Also nice picture. I really like the style of the concept artist.
Edit: Lol, Nuvendil wrote faster than me.
Yeah. I'm a boss like that :P
And yeah, Chestman is really awesome.
I love his style, too!
I'm just saying here, but there's no need to make everything LOTR-inspired >_>
True but I do like a lot of the scenery in LotR. It might be the awe factor that makes it so appealing. (I mean what were your first thoughts when you saw the halls of Moria, Lothlorien, Minas Tirith, etc?)
Was busy comparing them to the images I had imagined in my head while reading the books :o
I still haven't fully read the books:(
You really should, they're better than the movies. Peter Jackson is good, but Tolkien is the master.

I really like your concepts and the lore so far but it would be really nice to see upload some ingame images as well if possible ;)
We're getting on that ;) Don't worry, we'll have more to show.. soon!
Definitely hear you on that. The First Look series just does such a broad sweep, far beyond areas that are currently the focus of development. We will have more to show on that end soon.
It does kinda look like gondolin too,the way it sits in a grassy valley surrounded by high peaks, this is awesome i love your work man!
Edit. oh sh*t sorry about the double post!
Voila! Double post fixed ;)
Personally I'm not fond of Ancient Greek architecture or culture, so I'm hoping the resemblance is minor.
The resemblance is primarily the structure, not the architecture. No need to worry on that ;)
