Those copper pipes, while they may be dangerously exposed, should be really good at cooling off the liquid that flows through them. They're a conductive material that passes through space, which makes them a decent radiator. Might be a good way to cool a reactor.
And if they get punctured and start venting superheated liquid to space, they suddenly become a VERY good way to cool a reactor... At least for a little while.

True! Sadly, after that you'll find your reactor running a tad hot, like a combustion engine without coolant.
