From 0:00-0:23 can[almost] explain my situation in a compact video format.
Warning:The video below features ponies and is for comedy reason.
Didn't watch? Well all it says is that I was procrastination and slacking off.
Let me explain more.
I actually didn't work on this for quite a while either because:
I lack of goals/preparation(coding and graphics) Nor a design document
Procrastination
Life
Research that may or may not be useless(it probably is)
The below image counts.(I didn't make the shader)
My progress could be comparable to someone cleaning a bathroom with a toothbrush.(That means I got into nooks and small spots while getting to big areas but ignoring the giant mess and having slow progress.)
So what have I did or started to chip away:
A revamped weapon system so instead of storing all the weapons in one script(which led into problems when editing[a.k.a it cleared everything])
Demonstration:
BULLETS!!(instead of a lasers)
Level Design.I should note that I actually don't know how to convert prototype models into an actual building/map.(So some help is appreciated)
I also finished the concept for the glove and retopoligization is on its way.
Concept:
Retopoligized version(currently):
Other updates are some refractoring of code and I still got more(each script relies on the other to work so image the disaster. My Main Menu doesn't work because of that). I also suggest hovering over the images(which I have much of).
Now for some comic relief before my rant.
Now for a disclaimer:[Somewhat of a rant incoming]
I started to post info about my game to damn early so now I have a game not ready for anything so this results in the fact that anyone caring about this game(very little-none) would have to wait for a long time, sorry about that, my bad. I have also re written all concepts, game mechanics, story and so on, so to keep anything relevant and on a common goal that is flexible I will make a design document so I won't screw the pooch. That is why I don't make much-any promises because it creates high expectation. I don't even own much skill in terms of game design, level design, music, barely animation, character design and anything besides some modeling, texturing, coding and others. Truth be told I wanted to quit, or make this project really minuscule, but every time I attempted to make a game I just quit because tutorials can only take you so far and I only followed fps tutorials at the time(also it's due to the fact that I already had some updates on the internet and not finishing a project that you updated seems a dick move).
Tl;dr-I made a bad decision that I'm constantly changing and pushing through, and an apology for anyone with some expectations.
Want to know the expectations, then read the long text.
Hope you read through most of this and that you had a nice day.
I know how you feel, this is exactly how I am with my game...
But hey. Keep working, I'm sure you can do this. I'll help if you want... I don't really have anything else to do, coz my own game's just kinda... meh. Coz I know absolutely no coding...
Thanks, I'm surprised you actually read all that text.
No problem! I just started reading this and I just realized that I was having the exact same problem and I just kept reading, ha ha ha!
I have definitely gone through similar experiences with my game, especially when I was still not completely sure what I wanted the game to be. What helps me the most is just letting the game evolve on its own, based on what I'm learning and what I am technically capable of as a team of one. Just keep challenging yourself and focus on the fact that you're learning new things as you go. If you're learning something new, your time is well-spent. Even if you end up scrapping some asset or mechanic, or rethinking your entire project, you still have the valuable experience and knowledge you gained through the process. Don't give up!
Thanks for the advice.
