Natural Selection 2: Combat is a first-person team-oriented multiplayer shooter developed by Faultline Games and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Players fight for either the Trans-System Federations (TSF) Space Marines or the Alien species known as the “Kharaa”, with both sides having a completely different set of lifeforms and abilities. The marines rely heavily on an array of high-tech ranged weaponry and mechanised armor, while the aliens rely on stealth, speed and strength. Additionally, aliens can evolve from a small but nimble and dangerous creature into one of five life-forms with unique abilities. NS2: Combat features intense two asymmetric teams in a fast-paced fight for survival, implemented using the beautiful Spark engine.

So what’s unique about it?

NS2: Combat plays like a half twitch-shooter, half stealth-crawler as the Space Marines and Aliens vie for control in a variety of otherworldly locations. The two sides being so different leads to a wide range of diverse experiences and affords us plenty of scope for unique weapons and gameplay depth. NS2: Combat offers fast-paced, skill-oriented gameplay with an easy-to-grasp but difficult to master set of play styles and abilities.

The gameplay is complex enough to retain a sense of achievement at mastering the learning curve, but at the same time retaining an appeal for more casual FPS players by designing skill-based matchmaking and catch-up game mechanics into the game from the from the very outset.

One of our design aims is that the game is particularly suited to public play, such that you can get a full gaming experience from a round of NS2: Combat in a spare 15 minutes. But because of the wide range of gameplay choices you can keep coming back to it as your skills grow, with a persistent stats system keeping you on your toes with players of a similar skill level.

Thanks for mentioning it Jeffman!

Here is a simple description of the game:
Combat pits aliens against space marines in a fast paced, action-packed struggle for survival. Part twitch-shooter, part stealth crawler, you can play with your own style and level up to build up to a jetpacking sentry-gun building marine or a lightning-fast invisible alien that tears through enemies in split-seconds. Featuring unique abilities such as 'Devour', where the largest alien eats her enemies, who then have to fight their way out from inside; and the 'Exo Suit', which lets you reenact your favourite robot/alien-punching scenes from the movies, games typically last 15 minutes, so it’s perfect for a quick game, but there are many different abilities and play style options to keep you coming back.

So, the description is very vague, and while I've been playing NS since goldsrc, I'm still not entirely sure NS2: Combat is supposed to be the equivalent of NS1's CO maps or something different.

Anyone coming into this without that experience probably can't tell this apart from NS2 itself with the way this has been worded. NS2 is already an asymmetric combo of stealth and twitch action, why should we think any differently?

It reads like a pitch to a boardroom of non-gamers designed to sell them on the idea of clearing the project.

I say describe the game in how it plays, not in terms of who it's made to appeal to, and if it is like old NS1's CO mode, play up the nostalgia a bit so us returning players can vouch for it to the uninitiated.

So I found it, buried in your FAQ.

Here, for any of you who come here wondering:

"When players join a server they start in the Ready Room, an intermediate area where players can hang out and choose which race they’ll be playing as. Players may also choose to join a random team, or spectate matches. Once a round starts, both teams battle it out, earning experience points for purchasing advanced weaponry, abilities upgrades, and different lifeforms. The team that destroys the opposing race’s command structure wins the round." - Faultlinegames.com
