The Crystal Palace has magical ties to the trident and the Trident Warrior. Every trident has its own unique zone, and this one belongs to the Spirit Trident and it's current wielder, Keena.
Because no combat happens at the Crystal Palace the player is free to explore it in full 3D. Keena's journey involves rescuing many from the forces of corruption, and they take refuge at the palace, where time seems to sit still. With enough help Keena can repair and rebuild the various rooms in the palace and the inhabitants will even offer their services afterwards.
The footage above is pre-alpha, and the Crystal Palace has plenty of development left to go. As a central area it will be a zone that's constantly being worked on and updated as the game gets closer to release. As it is a home for both Keena, and the rescued merfolk, it's also where you'll find the game's various minigames such as Clashing Fates, a game of luck, Clamball, the favorite pass-time of the Miura, racing, and more to be announced.
The Crystal Palace has been constantly changing since Miuratale's original concept, and it feels great to finally have a near final version. The story has always revolved around the trident, the palace, and corruption and the design has gone through 3 revisions before landing on this 'aquarium tank castle' design.
The Crystal Palace was built directly in Unit thanks to ProBuilder. While lacking a few useful tools that Blender would have, it's invaluable to be able to directly edit the world in the editor and test it as needed. Keena is small, even amongst mermaids, so the palace appears massive to her, and I was constantly testing to make sure the scale and size of the palace was just right. It's a fun place to swim around, but small enough if your in a rush to get what you need and leave.
The Crystal Palace has been home to a multitude of Trident Warriors who held the Spirit Trident before Keena, and it's weathered and damaged appearance is intended to tell its long story, an entire wing of the palace is missing. Coral has managed to find its way into the otherwise crystalline location from the many refugees its walls have protected and it has grown massive, untouched by time.
While most of the palace acts as a safe haven the domed tower is Keena's home and can be decorated with a variety of furniture and pieces found throughout the world, but we'll touch on that later...
