Metagolf is a mini-golf game with multiple challenges. Up to 4 players can compete on the same screen, sharing the same golf ball and the same goals. Team up for loads of fun with friends or play alone to improve the accuracy of your swing across 3 different platforms (Windows, Mac Os X and Linux). More focused on action and real time strategies than a traditional mini-golf, discover full interactive environments from fish ponds to breakable chains and deadly traps. Thanks to his built-in level editor, you can create, share and download new courses. Currently available in two languages, English and French, Metagolf let you reuse any provided content or make new one from various media to create your very own world. Change the realistic physical system behaviour or combine any game mode with exiting different type of golf ball. The choice of setting your own game play preferences is entirely yours !

Using Fedora 16 GNU/Linux

Meta.log empty.
error.png download here: Ulozto.net

Terminal output:

[username@machine metagolf]$ ./desura_launch_Play.sh
./desura_launch_Play.sh: line 21: 1893 Segmentation fault LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$LIB_PATH $BIN_PATH $ARGS $@

[username@machine metagolf]$ ./Metagolf
Segmentation fault

talking about demo version.

If the Meta.log is empty then nothing is initialized or even launched.
Sounds like a Desura Client error to me (I already have to face one of them before, the Desura client does not support folder with 'n' like for example Fish'n'Chips) but to be sure could you give a try with the Official Demo version on the Metagolf website :
Arm42.com

Thanks for reporting this.

No problem, glad to help if it's any good. Wouldn't be surpirsed if it was bug in Desura client - Linux version is plain horrible. I'm hoping for the open source client to take off ( Github.com ).

Anyways, I've tried the standalone version you have provided, with same results:
[username@machine Metagolf]$ ./Metagolf
Segmentation fault

Perhaps there is problem with depencies. Which packages (programs, libraries) need to be present in order to run Metagolf?
if you provide a test case, I will gladly retest it. Just tell me what to try. ;)

Cheers

Yeah, sometimes I need to relaunch the Desura client 8 times to upload the last binaries :)

The only dependencies needed in order to get sounds on some distro is PulseAudio (sudo apt-get install pulseaudio). But this may change in a near future! I'm currently trying to replace it by OpenAL but the driver isn't very stable. Other than that I did not use anything special.
As long as you have an OpenGL compliant Graphic cards, Metagolf should at least launch itself and return eventually a more elaborate errors indicating something is wrong. I guess you already try to update your graphic drivers ?

I never test it with Fedora, in fact there is so much Distro available that I limit myself to the last Ubuntu and Mint 12. I may give Fedora a try if I manage to install multiple OS on my dev machine.
Is Fedora a minimalist distribution ? Maybe there is a GCC (C++, Boost, etc.) redist. needed as dependencies like you suggest. I will try to inform myself on the subject and get back to you as soon as I have more details. It shouldn't be something bad IMO one or two packages missing for games :)

Hi,

Fedora is a full blown distro and I have all the packages installed, including latest Nvidia drivers.
Hopefully we'll get this sorted out ;)

Cheers

Just to inform you that I'm no longer using PulseAudio as the Default Sound system under Linux but OpenAL now.
Of course, you can still revert to PulseAudio if ever needed (by setting the switchAudioDriver parameters to 1, under data/config.xml).

This new feature included in Beta 5 should probably fix your problem :)
