As a little character, smaller than the size of a pea, you fall onto an old lady's kitchen on a stormy day. Now your mission is to get out from the kitchen through the window. Since you are fallen on the ground, you have to climb your way through the window. After you discover a needle with a strong on it, you start using it to climb and make your way upwards. You are able to throw the needle and walk on top of the string, also having to manipulate objects when throwing the needle.

Hello IndieDB!

Welcome to our first article from the game Instar!

In this first article, we will explain to you the concept of the game, a small narrative of it and try to show you the best as possible idea we envision of our game :)

But first meet the team!
We are a group of three consisting of a Game Designer/Project Manager, Game Artist and Game Programmer. We are all studying on the same University, from Leiria, and this is a project for a curricular unit.

This is the Game Designer and Project Manager (that's me!):

Our Artist:

And our Programmer (and probably Sound Designer):

So let's get started on the game concept!

Instar follows the story of our main character, Ivy, a very small being that could fit in your hand. She lives in a forest, and on a stormy day, the wind carries her inside a kitchen of an old lady that had her window open. Ivy's mission is now to climb her way until she reaches the open window, so she can return home.
While on the floor of the kitchen, she finds a needle with a thread on it lying around nearby where she fell. She now uses this needle to climb her way to the top, throwing it and walking on top of the thread.

Here are some images that will serve as visualization and inspiration for our visuals:

As the player, you will have to figure out a way to use the needle and climb your way to the top, surpassing all the objects that are in your way.

As for Ivy, these are some of the images we gathered to inspire on her creation:

We hope you enjoyed reading our first Dev Blog for Instar! Stay tuned and discover more about the mechanics of the game in the next Article!

Have a good end of the week and stay cozy :)
