Elysian Fields is an atmospheric, slow-paced, first person puzzle/exploration game.

The story begins with a lost soul, who has forgotten who he is, searching desperately for a place to rest. But in order to be granted access in the much sought Elysium, he must first prove himself worthy of such an honour.

All the elements of the game, from music and sound to visual assets and story, are crafted so that they are guiding you in an odyssey that has as goal reaching a state of self-awareness and bliss. You will get to experience a vast spectrum of emotions, starting with loneliness, sorrow, melancholy, emotional attachment, regret and shifting towards joy, fulfilment and love as he gets closer to the end of the game.

The environment combines familiar settings (such as forests, fields, rocky scenery, and so on) with surreal or fantasy elements that defy the laws of physics and common sense, to which the player must adapt. Therefore you will have to leave your preconceptions behind, adapt and think outside the box while still maintaining a connection with reality.

After all the wonders you will discover along your journey and all the mysteries you will solve, in the end, you will have to face the Truth.

Shaping a Game from Mist

Hello IndieDB community! We are Dream Crafters. A really small, young and enthusiastic team of aspiring game developers. We are all freshmen students starting our journey in mastering the Art of crafting experiences. I don't want to encumber this short article with further details about us. If you want, you can read more about our story here.

So... What are the Elysian Fields?

Elysium (or The Elysian Fields) is a conception of the afterlife that evolved over time and was maintained by certain Greek religious and philosophical sects, and cults.

Hesiod wrote: And they live untouched by sorrow in the islands of the blessed along the shore of deep-swirling Ocean, happy heroes for whom the grain-giving earth bears honey-sweet fruit flourishing thrice a year, far from the deathless gods, and Cronos rules over them

Okay... But your game is dark and grim.

Yes, it is. As a player in our game, you are not exploring the Elysian Fields themselves. You are lost in a strange realm, something similar to a purgatory. A cold and twisted place. A world of possibilities one could barely imagine. Elysium plays a symbolic role in our game. It is your ultimate goal to reach the plains of eternal bliss.

That sounds cool, I guess... But how is this supposed to be entertaining and fun?

It is not supposed to be fun. The world we create is merely a tool we use to deliver the experience we that want to craft. Elysian Fields is a game about self-discovery. It is about elucidating this mysterious world and the meaning behind it. It is about thinking outside the box and solving captivating puzzles... Not only logical puzzles, but psychological ones as well...

What is the current state of development?

The games is in a very early stage, and we have a long way to go until an alpha release. Almost all the game mechanics are in place, but we have to create content for the game. An early version of the first chapter is already completed, although we are currently redesigning some of its areas. We will soon start to work on the second chapter... As soon as our final exams will pass. (and hopefully so will we)

Here's a screenshot of one area we've just redesigned:

A howling canyon

What are your plans for Elysian Fields?

We want put quality over quantity. We intend to develop a short game. A game that you can complete in a single play session. We are going to invest as much time as we need to in order to create something as close to our vision as we can.

We are going to keep you up to date regarding any relevant progress we make through our IndieDB page and our blog.

Also don't forget to like us on facebook and follow us on twitter.

Looks really nice ;)

Hi Thomas! Thank you for your interest in our game!

Of course we will allow you that, we actually encourage it... as soon as we have an alpha build available or at least a decent portion of the game that we can show off.

Please send me a PM with your contact details so we can get through to you as soon as that happens.

The world you are creating looks very interesting. Really like the screens and story you have so far!

Thank you! Actually there is no story, it's just a setting we are throwing the player in, guiding him with certain events.

It is entirely up to the player to give meaning to those events and, to some extent, create his own story.
