Crypts of Avaritia is a combination of randomly generated dungeons together with a first person view with gameplay similar to Heretic/Hexen combined with Dungeon Hack, Ultima Underworld, Dungeon Master, Might & Magic, Daggerfall, Arena and other games in the same genre. The gameplay will not force the player into melee combat as many other RPGs do, instead choice will be given to approach any problem the way the player seem fit, just like in Deus Ex. As such there are many non-combat skills for the player to upgrade. There are strong survival-mechanisms coupled to the gameplay, such as the player need to sleep, eat and drink water. You can also break bones, bleed and get poisoned.
Just showing off some new weapons and combinations that you can have, also the shield in passive mode and active mode(must be in active mode to give armor value to player, the penalty when activated is that that the players sight gets a bit hindered).
So can ya block with it too? Or is it more of an automatic thing?
The blocking is manual (you click on the corresponding mouse key to hold it up or put it down) and you have passive mode (the shield down as in this picture) and active mode (as in the picture with the sword). In passive mode you will get some of the armor value that the shield has but not all of it, in active mode you get the whole value but your eyesight gets restricted because the actual 3D-model is blocking your FOV. I want it to work this way because it adds some tension to the fighting and is a bit more realistic, I try to encourage people not to just hack and slash but instead use tactics and feel vulnerable.
