The Chosen 2 Bundle

News 7 comments

Indie Royale brings you The Chosen 2 Bundle. It was originally The 'Really Big Bundle' and was voted for by you as the next bundle for us to re-run in a twitter, facebook and google+ vote.

The Chosen 2 Bundle is led by the title that gave the original bundle its name - Boss Baddie's crazed space shooter Really Big Sky, packing a whopping 12 game modes and local 4-player coop into its beefy, feature-filled frame.

Also included is Dutch developer Mystic Box's under-appreciated Runespell Overture (also available on Mac for bundle buyers), an RPG twinning collectible cards with poker-based combat in extremely playable and innovative fashion.

Next up is the the PC version of Independent Games Festival finalist Eufloria (formerly known as Dyson), an acclaimed 'ambient space exploration' title that's been a staple of independent game showcases over the past couple of years.

And finally, Zeboyd Games' cult indie RPG duo Cthulhu Saves The World and Breath Of Death VII - twinning Lovecraft-ian spoof with Japanese RPG pastiche of the finest sort - complete the five titles in The Chosen 2 Bundle.

Those who pay more than $7, or their currency equivalent, get a 'Star' to drop the price during the bundle and also receive a bonus 'thank you' in the form of Fez composer Disasterpeace's chiptune concept music album 'Rise Of The Obsidian Interstellar' in FLAC and MP3 formats.

You can find more information on The Chosen 2 Bundle, including real-time statistics and its current price, on its official website or via its Facebook, Twitter and Google+ pages. As ever, the bundle is cheaper the sooner that you purchase its (unless, of course, some kind purchaser opts to lower the price for others) although there is tremendous value here whatever price you pay.

I tried this game, but never got to the end of it. This is because of two things.
Firstly, it's the parody aspect. I have to admit here that I never played Final fantasy or any old-school RPGs, (just old looking ones made with RPG maker) so most of the jokes might gone over my head, but what it left ain't that funny. I could have thought of a bunch of other things that can be brought out. More funny things to explore, etc.

Secondly the gameplay. It gets boring really quick. One of the aspects about RPGs that next to the main storyline they have a lot of sidequests, exploring, etc. sandbox in short. This is totally missing. There is nothing much to do, but go forward, and the most exciting thing the game can throw at you are random encounters. I understand that years ago random encounters were totally common and all, but it didn't age well, and switching the enemies to "funny enemies" ain't make it more fun. Random encounters is a cheap way to make the gametime more long. If I want to fight I look for a fight, why does the game decide that for me?

The Cthulhu game was a bit better on both sides, you didn't need to be a hardcore RPG fan, but I got so bored of random encounters by then that I gave up in the first cave.
I think I just go and stick with the modern RPGs.

But, I don't want 720p, I bought a scan converter just to play old style games like cave story on an analog TV. (It looks good except s-video sucks and it's hard to get an American 480i CRT with RGB)

It works best for resolutions 800x600 and below. (1024x768 sorta works, but resets every now and then)

First time I read that title, almost thought it said "Breath of Fire," lol.
Guess I must have had SNES on the brain.

Its a parody title and "Breath of FIre" is a part of it. The whole game is a parody of all sorts of RPGs, ranging from the title (Breath of Fire, and Final Fantasy VII. This is the only Breath of Death game), to things like the silent Hero (Crono) and other typically concepts found in RPGS from the SNES era of RPGs.

Linux version please? I'd very much appreciate it.

If I remember right, the game was written with XNA which means that in order for there to be a linux port they would have to re-write the entire game. So while it would be nice to have a Linux version, I'm doubting it will happen

They'd probably only have to switch to another graphics library like SDL

XNA games can come to Linux, Mac much more easily than ever before. Heck, the SDL2 version of MonoGame could bring them to mobile (though Zeboyd would have to turn his games inside out to port to touch controls).

EDIT: I guess Cthulu is already on mobile :-P
