Hello!

A lot has been going on with game engines lately. People are talking about how UE4 and Source 2 have gone free, Unity 5 has been released, and Crytek is running out of money. The only really important news for me is the release of Unity 5, since Black Dreams is made with Unity 4. I thought I'd update the game to a Unity 5 project, fix some bugs and use the new lighting to make the game look better. Sounds good, right?
Well, turns out it wasn't such a good idea after all. When updating the project, I didn't consider the changes to the scripting API. I ended up getting thousands (yes thousands) of errors from scripts, shaders, plug-ins, even the physics engine threw errors! Now, pretty much everything is broken. Basically, if I wanted the game to work with Unity 5, the easiest thing would be to just start over and remake the entire game. From scratch.
Because of all this chaos, I probably won't release any updates to the game. At least not any time soon. Luckily, I'm not Ubisoft, so the released game isn't completely broken, and it doesn't require a million patches to become playable. With that said, I know people are having trouble with the chair puzzle. If you are one of those people, then listen carefully.
When I was working on the game, I noticed a slight… exploit. An exploit that allows you to skip a certain part of a certain level. I was going to remove it, but decided to leave it there in case anyone wanted to do a speedrun. Please have a look at the gif below and you'll see what I mean.

Walking on the wooden stuff to the other side.
So if you think the chair puzzle is too hard, just do that. :D

Anyway, to fellow Unity devs, make sure you backup your projects before upgrading them to Unity 5. I guess 1.0 will be the final version of Black Dreams, then. A bit sad, because there were a few things I wanted to add to it. With that said, it's still just as spooky as before, and you can still get it from itch.io and Desura. I'm very grateful for all purchases.
Well, I guess that's it for now. So long and thanks for all the fish!

I wanted to give this game a shot but sadly it's too much of a pain to bother with.

You should really work on the door opening mechanic. It is tedious and annoying. Don't get me wrong. I understand how it works. What I'm saying is that it is bad. Very bad.

Maybe make clicking on a door trigger the door opening or at least make it so the camera stops moving once one clicks on a door so that the door may be swung open.

I'd recommend playing Penumbra or Amnesia to get a feel for how it should work.

Once this obstacle has been overcome, I'd love to give the game another shot.

Hi, I'm having trouble playing your game. I got to the "chair room" but the jump mechanics make it impossible for me to proceed. There's 2 core problems that seem to be giving me trouble. First, you can't move after jumping. If I jump while standing still I cannot move until I've landed. Although that is technically realistic, it makes for poor gameplay. I should be able to jump then tap a direction to fine tune my location. Second, the jump just doesn't work some times. It seems to happen if I try jumping while moving down a slope (such as many of the angled chairs) I'm guessing the collision of my body isn't always hitting the chair as I move down the slope, so whatever way the game determines if I am on the ground and can jump, the jump isn't triggering. This wouldn't be a big deal if it weren't for the first problem. So instead of being able to jump then scoot onto the next chair, I have to run forward to get momentum to jump, and half the time the jump doesn't trigger. Unfortunately the game looks wonderful and I really want to continue, but the jump mechanics are incredibly frustrating. Thank you.

Oh, you're right! I was going to fix that before releasing it, but I forgot. I should be able to fix it rather quickly, and I'll publish an update early next week. I'll also try to throw in some graphical enhacements to make it up to you :D

By the way. The fact that you can't read in real dreams is NOT a fact. It depends 100% on who you are, most people can't, but I can read and that proves it's not a fact for everyone.
