Aphotic is an asymmetrical horror multiplayer cooperation focused first person shooter. A crew of 4 are awakened from hibernation by a power outage only to find out that one of them has been infected with an alien life form and transformed into a deadly beast. Their equipment is not suit to handle such situations so they are forced to cooperate tightly in order to restore the power and escape or kill the alien. The player-controlled alien must utilize his skills and hunt down the human players one by one.

Implemented Gameplay Mechanics:
-Humans can only hold a flashlight or a gun at the same time, which means they will have to dynamically decide who shoots and who light the way
-Humans are additionaly equipped with a flare used as a temporary static light source
-The alien sees in the dark and is able to walk on the ceiling. His means of attack is a long distance dash.
-The human players aim is to find a card key in the current level which opens an automated door.
Development plans for the future contain classes for human players, alien abilities, more level environment types and many more aesthetic details. The game is to consist of a couple of short rounds.


It is the beginning of 22nd Century and the end of civilization on earth. Natural resources are running low. In act of desperacy, the whole humanity on a board of a huge vessel called Arc is heading towards Gliese 832c – the closest Earth resembling planet and the last hope for the mankind. A vanguard team of 4 on the deck of a space shuttle was sent to gather samples of organic life and thankfully they are already coming back to the Arc.

However, there is something peculiar going on. You just woke up from the hypersleep. One of the pods was crashed, all lamps are covered by a thick layer of a strange fungus, life support machinery just broke down and one of your teammates transformed into a blood-starved monstrosity. Due to equipment not prepared to be used in that kind of situations you have to tightly cooperate with other survivors carrying the light source or trying to keep the danger at bay with a rifle. Work as a team or be killed and next time, who knows? Maybe you will be the beast?

Choose one of four characters:

  • Ex-detective resembling Charles Bukowski’s characters with a noir cinema vibe
  • Femme fatale scientist in her forties suffering as her beauty is passing away
  • Ambitious boy who doesn’t seem to witness the cruelty of the world he is living at
  • A talented orator with an unusual sense of morality

With every match discover more and more parts of their stories thanks to the environment narrative design and adding parts of puzzles to gain the total picture of what has happened. Good luck. You are going to need it.

ZTGK event summary

Okay guys we are already back from Łódź. It was a wonderful experience. On one hand it was very tiring, but on the other it was very lucrative and we had a lot of fun during those two days. Even though we didn’t win (congrats Tangent Universes) we are even more eager to improve our project thanks to the feedback we got during this event. The other thing that I really enjoyed was our game. We spent around two days playing it and I still want some more (killing guys from my team is so damn enjoyable). What is more, I have experienced a thing which makes people want to become gamedevs. A lot of people really liked playing Aphotic. Looking at players being spooked out by an alien jumping out of darkness is an image I will replay in my mind over and over again.

Well let’s cut to the chase. The major changes and new features will include:

  • Rebuilding the map with some POI
  • Improving gameplay mechanics (mostly lighting)
  • Replacing flares with glow sticks
  • Analyzing statistics according to data that we will gather after every match
