Planetary engine that can be used with real elevation data of arbitrary resolution, while being progressively enhanced by fractal algorithms. The fractal algorithms refine and introduce details down to centimeter resolution and can be parametrized by elevation and land class data. A completely random fractal terrain is possible too, or a terrain can be sketched in rough resolution with fractal generating the details. Level of detail ranges from thousands of kilometers down to centimeters, with full visibility. The engine is fully asynchronous, majority of the algorithms running on the GPU while the rest is distributed to multiple CPU cores.
"Alienized" planet Earth using a different set of fractal materials, green atmospheric scattering, orange sun and red color of oceans.

I cannot express in words how much I want a demo right now
A little bit too green and too poor on landmarks but I like the atmosphere. It would be cool for some fantasy/sci-fi shooter game :)
and the rivers will run red with blood...
Great looking planet, but rarely IRL will a planet have a green atmosphere. Or gases that manifest as green. Not that that really matters.
Anyway, great engine. Would be awesome if you perhaps included a few more planetary phenomenon. Like northern lights and other stuff.
If you have a green sky, you have overall green reflections. Just like the oceans look blue, because of the sky. It's also the color of the molecules in the air that gives it the color. In the distance we see more blue.
So I suggest an overall red theme. It doesn't scream "psychedelic" like the current colors. Of course it will look somewhat like Mars, but Mars with water is already cool and new. You can save the green style for gas giant. It's very eirie looking, but it doesn't help create a real planet impression.
It's obviously a methane or chlorine atmosphere.
