Quick Introduction to Deep Dark Wrath and the Progress it's had in 6 Months.

Posted by on

Heyyo, my name is CraftedCircuitry! I am showcasing to you today the numerous progress updates of my upcoming dungeon crawler, Deep Dark Wrath!

I just want this post to be simple (posting on multiple platforms is hard as a solo developer xD) so I'll be showcasing a lot of screenshots I've gathered from development so far. I really haven't been too focused on screenshots early on, but as I feel more and more confident about what the game is becoming, I've started to do more screenshots and GIFs to appeal to more and more people.

EDIT: I added a bit more written content as just screenshots just felt wrong. I should not have released this article early xD.

But what is Deep Dark Wrath you might ask? Deep Dark Wrath is a hand-drawn, card collecting, dungeon-crawler where you fend off countless enemies and find its source with the help of powerful Enchanted Cards.

The game drops you into the Dungeon and your task is to quell the darkness controlling it, the Wrath. The Dungeon has a mostly fixed layout, filled with unique areas, strong enemies to fend, key items to gather, and many Points to plunder so you can buy more Enchanted Cards.

Enchanted Cards are your main way of getting stronger so you can dive deeper into the Dungeon. These give you stat buffs and effects that can change the Dungeon to make it much easier to venture and escape.

It's currently still in development to polish up as much as I can for the Full Version release, but it has a Free Demo on Steam (Windows PC) and Itch (Windows PC and Android) that you can try out.

Now with that out of the way, let's see what I've been up to these past 6 months.

v0.1 - Prototyping

Decided to really focus 2 months of my time to finish the content of the game. Yep, the entire game was essentially done in like 2-3 months, but I am infinitely glad I decided to just let myself cook with this game. I should have started to market by then but I still wasn't particularly confident with it this early on.

v0.2 - Prototyping the Feel of the Game

I added lights and darkness to engulf the Adventurer. The Dark in the name is gonna be weird if it's not dark in-game.

v0.3 to v0.4 - Polishing the Feel of the Game

My first demo release of v0.3.6 was on Itch to try and get feedback. I continued on to keep polishing the game more and more.

v0.5 - Fireballs and Balancing

I was inspired by Hollow Knight during this time, and the Fireball really was something that helps break the combat loop a little bit.

v0.6 to v0.7 - Balancing of Mechanics / The Final Demo Update

After a feedback game jam on Itch and a slew of bugfixing and mechanic balancing, I finally added the final Demo Update on both Itch and Steam.

v0.8 to v0.9 - Final Polishing of the Full Game

Here's where we're at now, nearing Full Version release. Polishing and play-testing as much as I can.

Release Date Nearing

I’ll announce the release date 2 weeks before the date. It’s been nice to have some rest from Deep Dark Wrath, playing it with the intention of actually playing it, doing the goals and living the idea of being able to play one of my dream games that have been on my mind for years.

Deep Dark Wrath was meant to be a lightweight grindy game that I would eventually add to my Android phone. And it’s been pretty nice that I’ve finally got that very idea into reality. Due to the amount of times I've played it, was given feedback, I think the game's nearly ready. All I need to do now is share it with the world.

If you've ever been following me on Steam or Itch, or just a new reader on here (I only got this page up recently xD), thank you all for the support or even just reading through this Devlog. It is much appreciated and it has been fun to show Deep Dark Wrath to the world.

It’s been CraftedCircuitry, signing off for now.
