An update going over the design of the Warbot, a new Jack of all Trades enemy.

Posted by on

As always, this update is live now and can be played for free in browser at Isochronalgames.itch.io. Updates like this will be coming out every week, so please follow if you're interested in seeing future updates!

A slightly smaller update this week as I'm moving updates from Tuesday to Saturday, so it's really only been half a week since the last one:

-Made it easier to add new tick icon combinations by layering multiple images on each other

-Added support for starting with particular statuses to enable some more variety

-Added the armor status, a permanent version of block

-Added the Armor Up card, which might need a consume tag going forward! It turned out very powerful in a couple runs I did

-Added the Warbot, the first in the new robot series of enemies!

The warbots design is pretty simple - it's meant to be a Jack of all Trades, with a bunch of different challenges.

First off it has 2 armor by default, preventing 2 damage from all attacks. I noticed in testing that I was tending towards using a lot of small attacks, so I added this to incentivize big single hits.

It also has 4 different attacks, each intended to test the player in a different way.

Charge Shock Cannon - A large interruptible attack with an attached stun, this tests the ability to attack or dodge at the right time.

Lightning Shield - A long parry, this can force players to burn defense cards to get past it. Alternately, if you can attack while defending yourself, it can also be an opportunity for free damage!

Missile Barrage - A series of lower damage AOE attacks, this tests blocking ability and counters summons

Size and Buzzsaw - 3 small grabs following by a bunch of low damage grapple-only attacks. This tests either blocking ability or the ability to burst damage to break the grapple.

If you have any thoughts let me know in the comments below!

Next up - I'm going to be adding the grapple archetype next week, along with a new robot fight and some UI changes to support it. I've also got a new shop option in mind that will combine well with the Remove Tick one, so keep an eye out for that!

I'm going to be posting one new Grapple card on my Twitter/X every day until the next update, so give me a follow @IsochronalGames if you'd like to see those! You can also follow me here to see the update next week with the full archetype.
