pvt.Johnson: Sorry, no. If you can find somebody to fix the remaining Mac issues in ioq3 ( see Bugzilla.icculus.org ), then Mac support is more likely to happen. FWIW, Tremulous should still compile on the Mac, but I strongly suspect it will not run particularly fast due to the broken JIT VM. YMMV.
(I don't see how the relative retail performance of Q2 and HL is relevant here, needless to say I think your claim that "Quake 2 failed" is rather detached from reality). The idea is not an "improvement" on Natural Selection because it is not based upon Natural Selection in the first place. If you actually bothered to play Tremulous before you compare it to NS perhaps you would realise that.
It's funny you mention Gooseman developing ideas for CS in the days of Quake (lets see... when you were 7) because I started programming Tremulous before NS was announced, starting in 2000. I'm not offended that another mod uses a similar concept to that of others, why are you?
So what you're saying is, once an idea is developed it should never ever be developed again? Why do people play Natural Selection then? Or Counterstrike even, which owes a great deal of inspiration to another Quake 2 mod, Action Quake.
I'm sorry, but I don't really see what you're getting at.
I suggest you take a look at a mod called Gloom for Quake 2, which not only incorporates the game play features you list, but also predates Natural Selection by a number of years. If you accuse this of being a rip off, it is none moreso than Natural Selection is of Gloom.
I also suggest you obtain a copy of GDM Feb 2001, where Charlie Cleveland (author of NS) cites Gloom as inspiration:
Please explain to me why you think this is a "damn ripoff"?
