Could you tell me how I could add new items into the game? I'd like to add a crossbow, bear trap and other things but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I've only modified things currently in the game but I was wondering if it was possible for me to add new things to it..

Like, would I copy & paste things pertaining to the Bow weapon, and then things pertaining to the Arrow item, and change their names to "Crossbow" and "Bolt" so that bots use the same behavior with crossbows as they do bows? Please help me if you're able to! I think I could add a few cool items to the game myself if I just figure out how lol.

could you give us some hints at new features implemented that we may not have seen or talked about yet?

About how much longer will we have to wait for the new version? I thought it would be finished in June but now it's July and there's still no news except for screenshots of new features :p.

hmm i found a cool change to hunger that kinda makes going hungry a lot worse than it is right now...i kinda dont know what i did but anyways, when you are starving you will lose 1 health as usual, but your food meter will keep going down into negative numbers and you will continuously lose 1 health every turn until your food is above 0. i think this is pretty realistic because a lot of the tributes are dying from starvation.

another thing i've done is put tracker jacker + net traps down on the ground randomly, and increased the chances of the CPU walking into traps + trackerjacker damage. plenty of people now die from other causes instead of just combat and i think it makes it more realistic.

one thing though is that, would it be possible to make the net traps and tracker jacker nests NOT spawn in the cornucopia area, and rather just the wild? because people get caught in the net traps while running to the cornucopia or get stung by tracker jackers and die and its just weird to me, idk

hey ~ i got an idea.
so what about when it comes to sponsors, there is kind of a "favor" thing?
for example, everyone LOVES the district 1 girl. she will get the most sponsors. And then, the District 7 girl kills District 1 Girl. Originally, the District 7 girl had an average amount of favor from sponsors, meaning she was getting gifts every now and then. but since she attacked the "fan favorite" district 1 female, her favor drops OR increases based on what the viewers want to happen to that tribute.

You would only lose/gain favor if you attack first.

if you press "C" on a tribute before attacking them, you could see stats like
District 1 Female
#1 Favored tribute
You will lose X favor for killing her.

this probably would be optional since it could be annoying losing sponsors because you had to attack someone or something, but i thought it could be a cool dynamic for the game.

Have any new weapons/tools/items/foods or new mutts/animals been added into the next version?

1.) what im getting from this is that if they are going to be given nightlock they should also be able to pick it up and eat it?

2.) meh, i play on a heavily modified hunger.ds file including throwing nets and I never found them that overpowered simply because most of the time I find myself not entangling them, and I have a better chance up close

3.) I was just thinking that you should be able to drink from water tiles and have a water bottle item from the cornucopia tbh

now a question I have is how can I raise the damage you receive from starvation from 1 to 5? I think starvation should be taken more seriously and since I play on the randomized food setting (Sf 0)

more of my ideas :S

1.) Make Nightlock edible by computer players too, and only make them hate you if they find out its nightlock (Make it work as if its the @STrap command, and they have an X chance to eat the poisoned berries, but if they find out they're poisoned they'll hate you.)

2.) I already have it in my game, but make the nets throwable in the vanilla version? I think it adds more depth to the nets because you can throw it as a ranged tool to trap someone, and use different weapons like a bow, blowgun or throwing weapons to kill them from a distance when they're stuck

3.) Please add poison and the thirst status soon >-< It's been on the idea list for so long

I agree with this, I mean I get it but sometimes I just find it so confusing with all the colors.

I think there should be a log of this too like there is of who killed who @ what turn (pressing ~)

But instead by pressing shift + ~ there is a log that shows something such as "District 1 girl allied with District 2 girl" "District 3 boy allied with District 6 girl" etc. (or if you can think of something better)

I don't really care if it shows the turn that this was made or not.

But yes, the alliance grid is really confusing to be honest because they're all darker colors and you're using red at least 4 times, the purple just confuses me after there's a lot of people dead and I never understood the gray.

Many of the things you can edit are listed in the beginning of the hunger.ds file under Custom Variables.

If you open the hunger.ds file twice, you can minimize the first screen to show these variables.

Then take the second screen and scroll all the way to the bottom and you'll find ///Initial Setup (Variables)///

Look for @KTube and then move to the right where you can find all your variables. Open your first screen again and look for what you want to edit such as @Sf (Set Max Food).

Change @Sf and add your desired food number. save the file, and then open up daedalus & run the hunger games script.

you'll notice that your food value is whatever you set it to in the script.

///////

if you want to edit items, their colors and damage/value etc then find ///Tables (Objects)///

this should kind of be self explanatory. The number will correlate to whatever is said on the right such as availability at the cornucopia.

Setting the number to 11 that correlates with the item will make it available inside the cornucopia.

Colors are listed above //Tables (Objects)// if you want to change those.

those are mostly my modifications so :P

What is everyone's favorite strategy of playing the game, and their favorite district? Also, what is your highest amount of kills?

My favorite District in this game is either 3, 4, 7 or 12 and I make a lot of traps as District 3 / 12. I fight head on with District 7 and 4.

My highest amount of kills I ever got on this game was 14 and I think I was a District 4 boy

This is actually my favorite way of winning as a District 3 Male!
Usually when I get the District 3 tribute, the map happens to be city so I block off the roads to get to the cornucopia with landmines and net traps and kill off people. My highest record of kills this way is 4.

I actually already did this, when a tribute dies it just said "Boom! A cannon fires. A tribute has died."

I love the immersion it brings, because I hope that the cannon really wasn't someone in my alliance, or I pray that it was someone who attacked me before that I couldn't beat like a career.

So, I was modifying my hunger.ds file again and found the setting @SAlly and I noticed how low it was...I think it was 5 or 10 or something like that.

I raised it up to 25 and there are a lot more alliances being made before the gong especially now that I changed the number of turns we wait until the gong sounds (15).

A lot of alliances are being proposed during the cornucopia scene and some are rejected brutally, and I find this setting a lot more fun because the AI are actually creating alliances and working together a lot. Sometimes even the careers reach out to one or two more people which gives you more of a reason to be fearful of them.

When I play, there are 3 to 10 alliances made between people, and in my last game there was an alliance of 5 people that were hunting others like careers which made my District 3 boy even more worried than he already was :P.

Has anyone else made any other cool tweaks? because modifying my hunger.ds file so that the game plays differently is a lot of fun to do.

And finally, a suggestion I had is that there should be "fog" in the game which could be transparent gray blocks that cloud up your view which don't let you see as far as you normally could (Could be randomized like hills are)

I agree a lot with the lava and animals and I think I suggested them before but a little differently. I'd rather be able to modify the amount of animals also.

Now that I can randomize the names of every tribute, how do I add on to those names in hunger.ds and know what district that tribute will be?

JeonForever - - 40 comments @ Hunger Games Simulation (Daedalus)

Cruiser, I know that the new versions probably coming soon but I have ideas for either this version or the next.

1.) More varieties of food (Apples, Cheese ,Crackers)

2.) Nets in the water collect a fish over time

3.) Grenades do splash damage (If I throw a grenade at a tribute, all tributes in its radius should be damaged too)

4.) Special feasts/sponsor items that prevent you from being hurt by game maker disasters (ex: Fire-proof suit to prevent damage from wildfires)

5.) Smokebomb (Stuns target for a turn and prevents them from seeing any tributes in a certain radius. Should be .5x the default range setting for example throwing a smoke bomb from 12 spaces away instead of the default 8, stuns for 4 or less turns)

6.) Alternate health source (Bread can heal, a leaf could be added that heals etc.)

7.) Pools of lava in mountains / deserts

8.) A way to save character names. If i name 24 tributes, I kind of wanna save names (like you did w/ the 74th and 75th games.) I want this just because I really like naming characters since it adds more depth

9.) Molotov weapon (Throwing a molotov at your target engulfs them in flames and does plenty of damage.)

10.) Change the colors on the TAB map!!! I swear I can never find out where anyone is if the map size is 200+, especially if their district color is a neutral color! Either make all the colors but your district partner a bright red and your ally green, or change the brightness of the colors. ANYTHING!!

11.) Finally add that power attack thing and the poison!!! I wanna push people into mutts / water so they lose some health.

12.) After X amount of turns, revive the mutts. Usually my mutts are dead by turn 125 or so and are practically useless. :[

13.) Winning a hunger games over 20+ minutes that you've found very difficult is very awarding, but why not give the winning player different achievements. I know they're stated and all, but they're not really 'thrown out there' enough...I could help you make achievement ideas if you want to actually implement them in the game

14.) Attacking someones ally (not district partner) should make that person hostile towards you and make them want to come after you.

15.) The careers honestly do such a bad job of defending the stockpile. I always sneak in and camp there till its feast time. I think that a career should be selected every night to stay at the cornucopia randomly and another career or two will return every 40 turns or so to check on the stockpile and if the original career there got killed.

that's all i got for now though :s

this looks amazing! have you planned/made any other game-maker interactions?

i would suggest making a SGM in the hunger.ds file (set gamemaker if you haven't already) with a number that indicates what ability the game maker would use. SGM 1 would be wildfire, SGM 2 would be shrinking the forcefield, SGM 3 would be a famine/drought, SGM 4 would start removing plots in the arena etc. but you should include a command that randomizes it, or removes it totally.

Hey if you are still looking for how to limit your inventory, scroll down to the bottom until you find SInv. Change the number next to it and that will set how many inventory slots you & your tributes will have everytime you start the game. SInv 20 is what I use, It seems overpowered but I really modified my game so its reasonable. ^^

Wow, just had a really great game! I was the District 11 Female and I decided i would play a more stealthy character. But by the time the countdown reached 3, I made my plan to run to the Cornucopia. I got a few darts and nets flung at me, so I took 2 damage and had 18/20 HP left. I took a bow and all the arrows, the bread, fish and berries and allied with the Careers. Together me and the other career females held off the cornucopia for 60 turns before we lost our District 2 friend. 28 turns later and we lost the D1 girl, and then killed off the D3 Male to mark the halfway point. At turn 128, A very 'tanky' and overpowered D5 tribute came to attack the D2 and D4 girls and I while we were 4-6 hp. But out of the forest is my D11 Male ally, whos flinging rocks out of a slingshot. After the D5 Male dies i realize this is where I'm gonna stick with my Career alliance or My district partner. I chose my partner, and threw my knife at the D2 girl. I shot everything I had at the D4 girl, but she wouldnt die until my partner chucked an axe at her. We mopped up all the items they dropped, and I moved into the forest to befriend a Mutt and kill the D1 Male. I took the Mutt along with me and killed off D7 and D10. This left me, the D10 Female and my partner left. I went to scavenge for food because the Feast at turn 500 offered us nothing but arrows and grenades (IS THERE A WAY TO CHANGE HOW MANY ITEMS SPAWN AT THE FEAST BY THE WAY!!!) but in the forest, I found the D10 girl. She was equipped with Body Armor and my arrows did nothing as she was 20/20 HP and I was 6/20. I died, which left my partner and her to duke it out. This resulted in my Ally winning

well, i am back. what have you added into the new update so far? im curious.

and another thing is, why do sponsors constantly sponsor me health kits and bread? i know its because i'm not full health/hunger, however when i am they offer nothing. i tried to get them to sponsor a weapon by not getting any weapon from the cornucopia / wilderness, and stacked up my health and food. they offered me nothing. is there a way to change this?

i have some more suggestions for the next update.

a 'tent' object which over x amount of turns will heal you 1 hp while you're in a certain radius of it, and grant a food object as well. if you get this and make allies, you can also set this as the 'meeting point' or a place to defend from other tributes.

a 'poison' object (i know this was already being planned, but maybe these are new features?) which you can poison another tributes food, weapons, water (if this becomes another item) etc which will either kill them immediately, or do damage over time.

the ability to free an ally from a net (I CANT EVEN STRESS THIS ENOUGH, MY ALLIES ALWAYS END UP IN A NET AND I HAVE TO DEFEND THEM)

a 'fire' object - well, i noticed that at night while im high up in the trees, tracker jacker nests are still visible. if you do the same for a fire you can increase the line of sight in the dark and possibly add other features [camps w/ tents and fires, burning players..wild fires etc]

more chat options - i want to feel like my ally is actually helping me in the game, because usually i do most of the work and i give them items and kill their pursuers. i want to tell them to go get this, go hunt them, stay here, patrol this position etc.

Is it possible to change the number of mutts each game using hunger.ds without modifying how many tributes there are? 2 mutts die really fast and id rather modify it to have 5-10 mutts each game with 24 tributes.

JeonForever - - 40 comments @ Hunger Games Simulation (Daedalus)

great! i love customizing the items and giving them different uses, especially being able to throw nets. I read the story and it was a very cool concept, I like the idea of putting her back in the games for doing nothing.

is there a way to make a tracker jacker nest an item you can throw such as a grenade, but also does splash damage w/ the same effects? i think it would be interesting if every 3-5 turns of having a nest in your inv you take damage, but youre able to use it on your enemies. it also adds new uses for the tracker jacker nest, which from my experiences havent been so useful as nobodys ever damages or walks into them.

also another game story, I was the D4 male playing on the CF arena, grabbing a bow and arrows + making plenty of alliances early so i can escape with good loot. I found a tree and stayed near it for 4 days, planting mines and foraging for food. i plucked off 12 tributes out of 24 using a bow and arrow, easily sniping people from my tree or having them killed by landmines. i ended up winning after forcing another tribute to drown bc they dropped their club to get a spear and equipped an axe.

I think an item suggestion would be a box of items (takes two turns to open, and one to grab things in it).

Also I modified weapons to be extremely useful such as nets being throwable, landmines available in the wilderness with nets and blowguns. Grenades are cornucopia items and are actually really useful, and I spread out useful items such as first aid, food, arrows, blowguns, fish, goggles helmets and armor around the cornucopia. Made food/armor/aid kits give more alliance points and put more things as sponsor items. Makes the games really interesting! District 3 mined a huge area of a forest and got 2 kills against the most powerful tributes so they took all their things and ended up killing me, District 4 and his partner. Its pretty fun being able to substitute the mines as traps because tributes actually use them.
