Looks good! Nice simple style and cool idea's on the eating, it reminds me of a game I had for gamecube, Phantasy Star Online something something, you could feed a little robot you had with items and depending on the items stats were raised/lowered. Thought it was a fun mechanic so really liking the idea of seeing something similar here. :)

Hmm a linux only version apparently?
Anyway I've had this game for years for pc. It was great then! Old but classic in my opinion, dunno what the linux version is like. If you like the kind of genre this falls in (isometric perspective, commando like game but not as freaking hard) then you might like it. If you can enjoy an older game. :)

What's next a game bundle with only sounds tracks and dlc but no games?

Afaik Overgrowth and NS2 once did a bundle. That was 2 indie games in a bundle, so not yet :P The one game bundle has yet to be invented though xD

Looks good, but switching characters looks like it's a pain in the ***, but I guess it's unavoidable for the Xbox 360 and better than a cycle hahaha. But what about PC? Number keys an option, or anything else more direct than a choice wheel?

DuckSauce - - 969 comments @ IOTY Players Choice - Indie of the Year

Where is it indeed, I'll tell you, it's not on ModDB nor IndieDB, therefore it cannot qualify for ModDB's/IndieDB's IOTY.

SHOCK AND SURPRISE, a game cannot qualify if it is not on the site where voting has to take place, since the vote button is on(and tied to) the game's profile page. Wait not very shocking at all is it ;)

From what I've seen, fans are free to create and manage profiles of their favorite games, if the developer won't do it. If DD has a sizeable update in 2012 it should be able to qualify for next year's IOTY, get to it :)

Funny to not see Minecraft on here...
HAH FOOLED YAH, honorable mention as to be expected of a game that widely loved, sadly not by the sauce :( I rather destroy than build. Oh yeah!

Not falling for that again!
Lots of honorable mentions this year.

Anyway, congrats to all the winners, they all are titles I heard off, no surprise seeing them on the list, though I had no idea Frozen Synapse was this popular, I've heard people spreading good words about it(I also got it gifted recently, it's pretty cool) but didn't know it was this loved on the ModDB/IndieDB community.

Edit: Now that I think about it, wasn't minecraft in alpha/beta last year, therefore counting as unreleased, like Overgrowth and NS2? Doesn't that requalify it? Just curious. Released status these days is so... vague 0_o

DuckSauce - - 969 comments @ MOTY Players Choice - Upcoming

Last image/video date from Nov 2008, Last news dates from Dec 2009, whatever updates you are talking about, they aren't ModDB updates, which makes it strange that ModDB users are voting it enough to be a honorable mention again.

If they're posting to the site, they could at least post these screenshots on ModDB, converting news posts to ModDB all the time, yeah I can understand if they're not up for that, but how hard is it to mass upload shots once in a while, they're raking in votes for a ModDB award while not having an active ModDB page.

I stand in line with the people here wondering why it's being voted on so massively still after so many years.

Curious why Natural Selection 2 isn't on the list this year, like last year, not that I want it to be, but merely in the sense of wondering what made it drop off the list entirely, isn't it still released and wasn't it first or second last year?

Did people lose attention for it, or did the others on this list just got a ton more popularity than it?

Merely asking out of curiosity.

Also some people like to be perfect now and then, to spin a tale of a hero who trumps all the odds and beats a 50 man army with just 10 men, if that takes 20 reloads, it doesn't matter, as long as it happens.

That is also a part of roleplaying, you might roleplay realism and have to face the consequences of failing a battle(that can be fun), or you can strive to make a perfect "story", which can also be fun.

I've done both situations myself for Mount&Blade, with normal saving I could be a guy that defeated an army of 500 pretty much by himself and then after I get tired of that I can play it hardcore mode, having to pick my fights and face the consequences if I fail.

Having both is a great benefit to a partly RPG style game like this, so cheers to captain_deathbeard :)

DuckSauce - - 969 comments @ Kenshi

I agree, why not have it as an option like Mount&Blade does.
If people are having crash issues, or just don't like losing, they can still pick that option, others will be happy with save on exit.

DuckSauce - - 969 comments @ Dungeons of Dredmor Linux/Win Release on Desura!

The price on Steam is the same? 0_o

Either way, I got this game months back when it first released on Steam, quite the excellent game, I kept playing it on the "Normal" difficulty with Permadeath always on, I died like at least 50 times, having to restart with a new character from scratch each time and in the end beat it after 80 hours.

That's a lot of value for the small price it was then and still is now.
Not everyone will like the game enough to play that much though and without the permadeath you'll like complete it in less than 20 hours.

If you want a challenge though, Dungeons of Dredmor can offer it :)

DuckSauce - - 969 comments @ It's hardest to recruit (or find) talented

I'd say Animators, from what I've been able to tell, it's a skill scarcely mastered, as opposed to others. But I could be wrong, but from my experience, not many people are good animators and the ones that are good are employed somewhere.

There are plenty of programmers to find, good ones that you can actually lure into joining you are perhaps also scarce, but there are at least more programmers, so I'd put that second.

Team Leaders... I never liked the idea of someone else but the person who started the project lead the project, but yes it's also a hard position to fill if it needs to be filled, because anyone can bark orders, but not everyone can motivate a team the right way.

DuckSauce - - 969 comments @ Solution to piracy?

As long as pirates continue to be able to crack everything they set their minds to, there is no solution. Perhaps finding a way to hunt them all down and punish them would drastically reduce (new) piracy, but that's radical approach...

Actually, I voted DRM, online DRM totally helps fight piracy! Totally!
Wait, who am I kidding, it's only ever created MORE piracy, not less, so there's at least one thing that definitely isn't the solution, stop hanging on it publishers!

As for this:
"More demos, betas and exclusive content"
Yes to all but the last part, exclusive content is so lame, it withholds you stuff that you probably could all get with pirating anyway.
