Minecraft airship mods will never be able to give the same experience that this game will offer. Remember that this game is still in a very early alpha stage and is therefore no where near feature complete. The procedural generation, physics, rendering, combat and ui are all being specifically designed for a multiplayer sandbox airship game, with all that entails. This includes large server sizes, lag and clipping-free airship movement, awesome bug-free combat (check out the link I posted below for my videos on that) and prettier more professional visuals. Minecraft was not the first voxel game, and many voxel games have characteristics that to the untrained eye make them appear visually similar when they are in fact very different products.

Or just keep it as a stand alone game which he is building from scratch...
He is planning on introducing different levels for a few of his machines, so higher tier stuff will be more informative etc.

And the fact it has never really known what it wants to be, PvP deathmatch on a big land, or open world mmo. They don't have the combat system or support for the huge battles you would expect sadly.
Will there be a multiplayer focus or will this be staying singleplayer?
We will be introducing ships later on, probably similar in scope to if you were actually standing on an empire or Napoleon total war ship during a battle.

As with most aspects of life, playing with yourself gets boring, and you end up looking for people to play with.
The other day my 22nd ran up to an enemy regiment and completely failed to fire... and almost got wiped out in one volley :(
As hard as we try to make this sort of information blindingly obvious, for instance in progress updates, videos, screen shots, and a few threads on our main forums, there will always be those heroes that manage to not see them.
