many modders here on moddb have somehow ripped the HL2 animations and SoC.
I've made a simple walking animation for it, but yeah ripping animations and porting them is possible, I just never tried it yet (tried with a Brute, but it is too high poly). Apone knows many things about this, so I suggest you speak to him if you need help. What I can tell you is this: fauna units have usually a set of bones and they are skinned (like humanskins), vehicles only have each part (turret, body, gun etc...).
So for fauna when you animate you move the bones that the model is skinned on; for the vehicle you move the parts. In both cases you use the animation keyframe to create what you need.
