I like what I'm hearing about mod support - keep it up, mate! This is coming together quite nicely :)

Always exciting to see a project in its early stages shaping up to become great. Looking forward to seeing more from you in the future :)

I second that motion - if not for the plethora of mods, Nexus wouldn't have lasted nearly as long as it did. Playing the campaign over and over again only lasts you that long... pushing out new mod releases along with great videos and articles, however, keeps the people coming back to the game and even introduces a couple of new folks, who never before heard anything about this very underrated strategy gem from 2004. :)

I think you've got the wrong impression here: getting a business license is definitely not the problem - Most Wanted Entertainment already is an established video game developer, founded in 2005 and with some 30 employees or so. We're not talking about two guys in a garage looking to break into the video game business with their first indie title ;)

They're looking for new ways of getting the funding for a proper sequel to Nexus, which didn't do any good financially, but which received generally good or very good review scores and still features a very active modding community, albeit a rather small one.

Contact me? No, I just heard about the announcement, read it and then posted about it here on moddb... because people really should know about Nexus 2 and how to help make it a reality. :)

I think Nexus 2 might stand better chances, if marketed right. Digitally distributed indie games seem much more popular today than they were seven years ago and Nexus 2 as a (relatively) low-budget project with unique gameplay might just attract enough people this time.

You don't need to get your money back, because your PayPal account only gets charged, if the goal of 400.000€ has been reached. If they don't make it to 400.000€, you won't be paying anything.

Well, you'll need "Nexus - The Jupiter Incident", cause this is just a mod for Nexus and not a standalone game. You can get a digital copy for around 10 bucks on Steam or you could go hunting for the retail version. Amazon usually has some, although it may be a bit pricier than Steam.

The mod doesn't do anything to your serial, so this is definitely not a mod-related issue. I suspect you're using Vista or Windows 7 with UAC enabled? This might cause the serial to be stored at the wrong location in your registry under some circumstances. Luckily you can repair that yourself:

1. Open up regedit and navigate to the correct location in your registry, according to the instructions in this forum thread: Arparso.de

2. There should be an empty field named "Misc_AuthKey" - just enter your serial as new value and it should work (if the field isn't there, create a new one with that name)

If you've bought the Steam version of Nexus, you might not even know your serial. Try searching the "Misc_AuthKey" in regedit then and it should eventually find the location, where your serial has been saved to. Then copy & paste that serial to the correct location.

I operate a forum dedicated to Nexus and Nexus modding, which has a Freespace-thread. That's probably the best place to give detailed feedback:

Well, I have a WarpIn script. It's being used in the Patrol Duty mission, but can be used anywhere else, as long as you include the "includes\_include_me.inc" file. The script could be easily modified to make a WarpOut effect.

That being said, the comments section here really isn't a good place to ask for modding advice. I operate a forum dedicated to Nexus and Nexus modding, where it'll be much easier to discuss stuff like this:
Arparso.de

You don't, it's a pure singleplayer mod right now.

not so much "included them", but more "didn't bother to hunt down unused meshes and textures" ... it's still less than 200mb to download, so further reducing the file size wasn't a big priority ;)

Tried out Nexus' mod tools by chance? They usually put the game in windowed mode.

You'll have to change a value in the Windows registry. Open RegEdit, locate the correct key (see Arparso.de) and change "display_mode" back to "1" ("2" means windowed mode).

You sure you can't run it? Nexus is a 2004 game, after all ;)

There is even a demo here on Indiedb.com

>> ships flying through other ships

Yeah. I suspect it happens because of the slow speeds - they just don't turn fast enough to avoid the "collision". It's not an issue in stock Nexus, because their ships move and turn faster.

>> the goddamn beams missing

Totally on purpose. I wanted to avoid the fights just becoming a simple math exercise on calculating damage-per-shot x fire-rate. Most shots will still hit, though... it just makes it a bit more exciting, because you just can't count on every beam always hitting its target. So what was initially an easy fight might suddenly turn into a tough challenge.
Shots missing is also rather common in stock Nexus, you just notice it more easily with the huge beam cannons.

>> Doesn't the leviathan pack a bigger punch than fenris?

It should, yeah. I didn't do a whole lot of testing with this pairing, though. Balancing isn't final, of course, so this is very likely to get adjusted in the future.

>> But I like how a sole rakshasa and a lilith can take on two levs and an aelous

Oh boy, especially the Lilith is a killer. It one-shots a Fenris and probably Atens and Cains, too. I didn't trust the stats at first and tried it out in Freespace 2 - yep, still one-shots a Fenris. That's why there is a "lilith_weak" shiptype available when using the Skirmisher - it simply got its beam cannon switched to a weaker model.

Pssst, don't tell anyone! ;)

Maybe I'll make it into an easter egg of sorts ... randomly appearing in missions or something like that, hehe.

Ah, crap... sorry, I had to reupload the mod cause of a small issue with the installer (didn't install the Skirmisher support files properly). Seems my timing was perfect, since the upload finished just after the old one got authorized - and now the newly upped file is awaiting authorization yet AGAIN :(

Big sorry to all of you seeing this post, but not being able to download the damn thing.

Btw, I recently created a dedicated Twitter account for the mod. If you want to keep in touch with further updates and development, this'll be the right address, as I won't create a new moddb article for every tiny bit of news:

Sorry, I seriously suck at sticking to my own deadlines... ;)

I should be able to upload the whole thing during the next few hours, though. Moddb still has to authorize it afterwards, but this usually doesn't take very long.

Just for quick status info: the beta release is almost ready for release, but I just decided to replace some of the older models with proper high-poly ones. I converted most of the FS2 models back in spring/summer 2010 - some ships have received notable upgrades since then, which I'm currently incorperating into the mod.

Shouldn't take more than a few hours, but it'll also push back the release to tuesday (I had it planned for today, btw).

Bigger ships are planned, just not for the first release. The huge size differences tend to produce problems in Nexus I still have to find a good solution for.
