So, this is the result of a few hours of modeling work on my part, no textures of course because I suck way too hard at textures, but I made around 8 meshes, of which you can see 5-6 in this picture.
What is the software you use?
I use 3DS Max for modeling.
if you generate some nice clean UVs you can use a technique like this:
Chrisalbeluhn.com
to make them look non-repettetive but still matching up when they're next to each other
Interesting, thanks for the article! And yea, there are no UVs yet, which is why there are a few seaming problems.
I think i'll wait for the final textured version of the prop.
Judging based on a untextured lowpoly WIP isn't exactly a good idea.
Just one thing, don't forget to model the debris as well.
Well, I just wanted to show something, as I am not great with textures, so I will need someone else to do so. And don't worry, I will make the debris as well.
Any chance of a more complete update anytime soon, more than just a picture or two? Maybe even something showing the animations for that XR15?
Even if you don't have them in-game yet, you could render out the animations from 3DS and show a video.
It depends what you mean by a 'complete' update. I think I will be writing a news update soon with something cool. I have been working mostly on documentation lately which means I have not done much more than this picture you see here (although I did update it yesterday with more meshes). As for the animations, they are actually in the editor right now, and I suppose we could render out some video of them, but they are not playable yet.
I just mean a full news update with some more content.
Even if the animations are not playable yet, I would love to see them. So far we have seen examples of ya'lls abilities in modelling, texturing, and even a little mapping. But we have yet to see how well ya'll animate.
Well, I will be posting an update soon, I promise, and hopefully it will contain some new content.
You see the problem with these tiny updates?
People expect more then just a screenshot of a prop that's early WIP.
Rather post less updates but more advanced/finished props and a bunch of them at best.
Also think about the presentation. Even putting simple things like a logo of the Game on the picture makes it appear much more professional.
It'll convince ppl that you're able to do good and professional work.
And you shouldn't tell the audience that you "suck" in something. Tell it to your teammates, so they can support you, but the rest of the ppl doesn't have to know.
Beside that you'll improve over time, so rather talk about things you allready got better with.
Well, I just want our 'fans' if you can call them that to see progress. We do what we can, but if we only posted huge updates, then we wouldn't be posting much. And by a logo, do you mean a watermark? And otherwise, I was just being honest...presentation for us doesn't have to be perfect, as we are a small team working online, and, realistically, no one expects that level of presentation from us.
