Titanium Hound is retro-looking video game in cyberpunk genre, where you are going to pilot huge and agile exoskeleton to crush hordes of crazed security drones and abominations to uncover conspiracy carefully crafted by one of global corporations.

History

Hello! :) I am pixel artist and solo indie developer working under Red Spot Sylphina pseudonym. I love good pixel art and cyberpunk genre, so at some point I've decided to create an interesting game that combines both. I've chosen Unreal Engine to accomplish this task, because my programming skills are too far from the ideal. The idea of the game started coming to life back in 2019 slowly, but steadily, as I had to work on it during my free time. Unreal Engine's usability and Blueprints feature helped a lot and saved me huge amount of time.

My goal was to create a game that isn't just beautiful, but also has something unique in terms of gameplay. I've created a special energy flow system - use your gun to direct energy to shield and use your shield to direct energy back to gun. Use lethal and non-lethal shots at the same time to activate combo-blast that has two functions. Firstly, it kills weak enemies, and stuns strong ones. Secondly, it directs your energy instantly - stay inside the combo-blast to direct energy to your shield, or stay outside of the combo-blast to direct energy to your gun. Combat in Titanium Hound is all about keeping the right energy balance.

Your gun and your shield are two parts of the same tool. Gun fires two types of projectiles - lethal, that deals a lot of damage, and non-lethal, that stuns weak enemies and disables cameras. Shield defends you from any damage. It also starts dash if you are moving while shield is active. While dashing, you take no damage, move faster than cars, and deal melee damage to any object you hit on your way. If weak target is stunned by your non-lethal shot, then it will take much more damage when you'll dash through it.

I just couldn't avoid adding some RPG elements into such game. Equipment can be installed into the Titanium Hound before the missions on the equipment screen - different devices will give you different advantages in combat. Crafting system will give you an opportunity to create and use powerful single-use items in combat. Gathering intel helps you to gain access to new equipment and new crafting blueprints - if you'll manage to find all the intel on a mission and then complete this mission successfully, you'll get new devices to install and new items to craft.

I've also decided to make missions' environments more than just decorations. There are destructible items and things you can pick up and throw onto the enemies. There are breakable containers full of crafting parts and armor scraps that restore portion of Titanium Hound armor.

Creating a good retro-looking game with a couple of unique features wasn't my only goal. I wanted to tell an interesting and instructive story by implementing fully voiced dialogues and mission briefings, and I'd like to say special thanks to all voice actors who helped me to do this eventually.
