With the 1.00 release coming up soon, I have opened up the character creator one last time. Through this, you can design your own character to be added to Solar War. This feature is available to everyone who bought or still buys the game before the release.

Since this was originally promised as a bonus for Alpha users only, Beta customers will only have 35 character points available to build their character instead the the 50 Alpha users get. Alpha characters also get a special trait that reduces promotion cost by 5 experience points.

To get started, hit the "Connect" menu item on the Desura page for the game and follow the instructions. Once you are done, you can start picking the stats for your in-game persona at Solarwar.net

Once you have finished making your officer character, it will be included in the game starting from the next released update (possibly excepting minor bugfix updates ending with a letter).

Connecting your Desura copy of the game to the Solar War site also gives you instant access to the latest standalone installers for the Windows and Linux versions of the game.

I just came to say: Special props for you for including a resolution that allows maximum size windowed mode. You obviously know the issue for yourselfes, since it fits perfectly without vanishing behind the windows taskbar. :) I wish more games had this option.

Got a broken save here. The industry budget has no 'spare' value and, as a result, I can't allocate the budget, only reduce it. This means that I can't continue. The bug appeared to occur from using the left mouse button held on budget values (e.g. Research) and dragging left until the value went to 0. At around 3 remaining, the 'sliding' of the number became very unresponsive. But I'm not 100% certain that is the cause of the bug.

Can you mail me the broken save at info@snipefish.de please? I'd like to take a look at what exactly went wrong there.

Bought :). A solid campaign mode with solid strategic and (somewhat limited) tactical frameworks. An AI opponent that plays by rules, that the player can affect (Like, for example, in the game "XCOM: Apocalypse"). Good stuff.

Is it just me or has the Ender's Game book saga have consedirable influence on this game?

Not on a conscious level at least. I've read the first few, but that's been quite a few years ago.

Please avoid using modal window messages, they're annoying in games and unnecessary!

You can configure many of those in the options. They are mandatory when the game can not proceed without your input, for example when you are getting attacked and have to choose whether to fight or flee.

Quite a good game here. But quite expensive for old school graphics.

+ Techno-tree
+ Designing own ships
+ The map
+ tactical battles
+ No bug

--- graphics (i don't really mind btw but others would)
- Officer's management quite difficult to understand and handle
- price

Nice thing about the way the generator works: New star clusters could be added on the fly while a game is already running.
