Post news Report RSS Societatem Dev. Blog #1: Mobile AA Gun, Anti-Hack System & More!

Hey, this is William from RedCrusaderGames and it's time for a developer blog. From now on these blogs will be posted frequently as major features are added to keep you guys updated on the development of the game.

For the first feature to show, I bring to you the Mobile AA gun.

This new vehicle has been added to counter the aerial vehicles, which currently only features the attack/transport helicopter. The helicopter has been proven too overpowered in testing games, even after numerous attempts to make it more difficult to use. Chris (modeler) has suggested that we add a mobile AA, so here it is. The driver's view looks like this:

The vehicle currently features a driver seat and a passenger seat at the front. The GUI is using the Abrams tank GUI as a placeholder while new GUI is being made.

Other things have also been added or improved. For example, I have completely remade bullets, switching from default Unity3D rigidbody physics to custom scripted physics. This allows for accurate ricochet, which has been added. A new 3D bullet tracer has also replaced the old 2D trail renderer.

A major improvement is the new anti-hack system. Previously, we had been using DaBossTMR's old anti-speedhack, which was proven ineffective and was giving false positives. Thus, I have collaborated with DaBossTMR and created a new anti-speedhack which is very precise and does not give any false positives. Important variable encryption has also been added, and important things such as player health are now encrypted.

A link to DaBossTMR's current WIP game can be found here.

Some other minor improvements are that vehicles can now capture objectives, and that the team mate GUI will appear for team mates who are inside of a vehicle. The muzzle flash has also been redone to use particles instead of the old plane.

Many bugs have been fixed, such as the player displaying -60000 health. Other miscellaneous things have also been added, such as the chat displaying internal errors to be reported to an administrator. Fading for GUI has also been recently added to improve the visual experience.

From now on, I will post dev blogs here whenever a major improvement has been made to the game, so please stay tuned.
