Fact: Prism Online will change how you play online.

Gone are the days of meaningless grinding and tedious skill leveling. Gone are the static NPCs and passive environments. It's just you, monsters, and your trusty gauntlet against the world.

Story:

Eons ago, the World Walker was created. Being a powerful and immortal creature, he fancied himself the protector of both the world of humans, and the world of monsters. After millennia of watching as human and monster played out their petty lives, he wanted for something more entertaining. In a fit of pure greed, he joined the two world into what is today Cantin. The humans and monsters were unaccustomed to coexisting and began The Great War. The war was eventually ended by the humans with the development of crystal technology.

The Player is the discoverer of a piece of discarded highly specialized Hunter technology, "The Hunter Gauntlet". The Gauntlet harnesses crystal energy and allows players to take the form of captured monster essences. In this form, they have all the prior abilities and strengths of the monster. Hunters are an elite class of individuals from all societies in Cantin and are respected wherever their travels take them. Their duty is to protect human settlements from monster attacks and investigate the wilderness for new ways to quell the monster uprising.

With their newfound prestige and respect, The Player explores the world unveiling history and lore that runs deep through societies and cultures, and secret societies that threaten the very existence of Cantin. What will you uncover?

Features:

- Combat -
Play as your monsters! Take on a third person or first person perspective as you tackle opponents both new and familiar, human and monster, big and small. We have designed a combat system that takes full advantage of our unique play style. Take an active role in defeating your enemies with melee, or elemental attacks.

- Attacks and Leveling -
Each monster has a standard attack unique to that species and is capable of managing up to 4 loaded special attack. Train your monster essence, gain experience, level up, and learn new skills from a huge skill tree.

- Environmental Interaction -
Players have the ability to cast spells on the world and affect their battle ground. Use teamwork with other players to cast more powerful spells, combo attacks, and chain skills. Certain skills will even generate environmental objects that can be modified, for better or for worse.

- Character Development -
Cantin has a rich backstory full of alliances and betrayal that forms the backbone of Prism. There are powerful families and stealthy rogues and secret societies hell bent on chaos. Choose who you want to be, and what reputation you'll build among NPCs. If you are a corrupt hunter, or a peaceful tamer, you'll still be able to complete the main content while still preserving your moral values. Choose from a wide variety of clothing items to support your character and put the role play back into MMORPG.

- Taming -
Rather than beat monsters into submission you'll be able to peacefully befriend them and send them to be cared for on your personal ranch. Some of the attacks are only unlockable through taming and gaining monster trust so it's essential for even the most brutish of hunters.

- Skills -
All hunters are trained in basic survival for even the harshest of climates. Learn how to take care of yourself and create useful items. Level your skills and train with masters from each discipline to master the skills yourself.

- Be Social! -
Prism encourages social interactions among players. From quests to dungeons to trading meeting other hunters will greatly enhance your experience, and we've given you the tools to do exactly that.

- Music -
Prism takes its musical inspiration from numerous iconic and influential games. Games include Runes of Magic, Pokemon, Skyrim, Legend of Zelda, World of Warcraft, and many more. Each sound is fine-tuned to the atmosphere to create a rich and rewarding environment.

Time to be honest

News 3 comments

This isn't something I wanted to do, but in the spirit of honesty and opneness I don't want to keep you guys hanging.

I, endie, have struggled with problems in real life for many months now. Among these problems were a delay on my degree, destroyed harddrive, sick family, and more I'd rather not disclose. Further, many of you may have heard of the United States NSA scandal titled PRISM. Of course, this is an unfortunate coincidence, but nonetheless it has struck a hard blow on our morale. It makes it very difficult to discuss this project with outside sources because they assume I am developing for the NSA.

This was not a decision I made lightly, but I'm sure it is a decision many of you have already predicted. When me and TG started this project, we were far too young to see the horribly large scope of this project. We both saw it as an opportunity to work together and just slowly chip away at the workload. Well, now we are several years later and the chipping has slowed down simply because there is just too much.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am not abandoning this project. However, I would much rather work on a smaller scope version of it than try to continue to force this MMO into existence. I don't want to continue dragging people's expectations through the mud, and stringing everyone along with 'a few more weeks' or something. The truth is, this MMO is far too large for this small a group of developers. And while we had some great help and support, I think there is a time when you have to throw in the towel, keep whatever is still left of the original vision and stop making compromises to get the game 'done'.

I am continuing to work on a smaller scale iteration of this idea. Cantin is still very much alive in my heart and I feel it still deserves to see the light of day. However, I don't want to be foolish and deceive myself about what I'm capable of. This project will meet the public eye once more, but not at Prism. It will hold the same ideals, but it won't have the same direction. I hope you guys can understand, and I apologize for waiting this long to make this post.

I hope this can be a lesson to all others who want to start an indie MMO with a few friends and themselves. There are a million other lessons out there, but I hope mine can speak to a few people. After pouring so much sweat, blood, and tears into this vision this has been incredibly painful to let go of, and I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone else. My advice: if you don't have a budget of at least 3 million dollars, or a willing team of 15+ people, or if you're under 20, don't attempt an MMO.

I hope to see you guys on the other side! When this game can become a reality.

The merge with Project Blender was declined for a handful of reasons, but we are looking at a new direction and stepping forward. We also have more questions...

We need your opinions on the future of this project!

Yeah, MMOs are difficult, I know a little from experience.

But, I'd say, just try something like Mojang did so it can still be multiplayer, have a LAN feature for it, and maybe a separate program for personal servers.

Next best thing.

Anyway, my hat is off to you lads and/or lasses for trying. There aren't many folks out there with this sort of ambition anymore. They all more focus on FPS or Puzzle games. Glad to see some folks still focus on this sort of genre.

One day, I just might have to pop by and see if I can help you make your dreams a reality. - Wilder; Head Developer for Shadows' Creed.

Heh thanks, it was certainly ambitious. When we do tackle this beast again when it's more viable for us, we will definitely scale back and work in a more modular fashion. Thanks for the positivity!

you should definitely do graphics that look right for the game. AAA graphics only work for some games. If it is going to be similar to pokemon, then you should make it look similar in the same way to pokemon but different in the ways you feel it should be.

A majority of the online component will be subscription free with an optional pay component. There will also be a cash shop to pay for special items like wearables and one use items. The client will be most likely be free to download.

This seems like a big project but is seems like your not getting any or much attention here. How long has this been in production and how many are working on it, just checking anyhow.

It's a pretty expansive project, so we're just taking it one step at a time. It's only been in production for about 7 months now and we're still in the baby stages so we haven't been expecting a whole lot of attention. We have a couple of writers, concept artists and a few graphical artists, the team varies since people come and go based on real life commitments. We also have a few programmers who are eager to contribute once we have a larger art database. Thanks for your support! (:
