Hi, everyone. Welcome to another week's developer's diary.

The game is currently on sale under the influence of some unspeakable Lovecraft horror. But, don't worry, counter methods have been deployed to fight such cosmic horror. The free DLC "All Fear Comes from the Lack of Firepower" has come with a lot of firepower you can find in your safe house. :)

Modern science and the development of weaponry have made it much easier for humans to defeat many once-feared monsters. Dragons once terrorized villages may now be slayed not by brave knights, but by artillery strikes. Zombies and orcs that once may overwhelm the defense of human forces with their number may now be blown up by bombs dropped from drones. Even some self-claimed gods can be taken down by nukes. The table has turned. Many predators become prey. If the world behind the veil is known to the public, maybe it will be a fashionable sport among the rich to hunt mystic creatures for fun.

Oh, well. Maybe they cannot. But you can. It certainly involves some animal cruelty, both to normal animals and supernatural animals. But, I am not here to judge. Happy hunting out there! Well, it will not be a good hunt if you cannot take some sort of trophy. Thus, I added loot tables on almost all animals this week. But, what can be on this table? Some may have furs, some may have parts that can be used for alchemy. But, most commonly, they all have meats.

Thus, a lot of different types of meats have been added to the game to replace the previous generic meat. Previously, we only have two types of meat, they are "meat" and "strange meat." Let's not discuss too much about the "strange meat" for the sake of everyone's sanity while the "meat" was just a generic turn to all other "normal" meats. Now, we shall get down to more details. Almost all kind of enemies now have their own meats. To be specific, we now have 22 more different types of meats from different animals ranging from the meat of gigantic mammoths to the meat of small rats. Certainly, you can easily expect mammoth meats shall allow you to recover more HP than rat meats in "normal" circumstances. (But, again, we are living in a highly free supernatural world, many things can happen.) That shall also bring more satisfaction to big-game hunters.

With the change to the meat, two more systems are immediately affected.
The first one is the cooking system.
The result is very obvious and direct, as the meat you use to cook a dish can directly affect the HP recovery rate on the final products. Even if your cooking skill is low, you may use good meat ingredients to make up the effort. A pork soup may be delicious enough to recover a good amount of HP after battles. But, a mammoth soup cooked by a skilled cook may even turn the tide during a battle. That means the meat dishes may now have bigger impacts on your life quality and war efforts.
The second one is the butchery.
Although sending your own pets to be butchered to get meat is highly detested by many animal-loving organizations, it's still a choice in the game. With the variations of meat added to the game, it can also become a more useful system. The HP recovery effect of the meat you will get is now scaled based on the animal you sacrifice. You can now level up the pets you intended to butcher later to get better meats and thus be able to make better meat dishes. The butcher, Zhao Sandao has been upgraded to using our new system to give you specific meats based on the pet you give him.
Actually, he is now an NPC with a relationship entrance.


You can improve your relationship with him by providing him with more animals to butcher.

That basically concludes the majority of this week's update. But, the title says "Part 1." What does that mean?
Well, there is much more to explore on this topic.
Before the development of the new content and picking the topic of meat, much research has been done. In addition to being a food source, different meats also have significant places in many different cultures and religions. That's quite natural as humans have been taking meats from other creatures and eating them since prehistory eras. Some believe God created certain animals for humans to eat, it's our birthright to consume. Some believe eating certain animals is taboo and must be avoided at all costs. In some nations, certain animals were consumed as traditional dishes in history while now such consumption is forbidden by laws as a result of social evolution. The meaty content update of this week opens up more possible content updates in our faith system and cooking system, and there may even be related quests.

And, there is also something darker. Both "fresh" and "meat" can mean something about sex usually in a depravity manner. Strangely, it's common in many cultures and languages. There is one place in the game that shall serve such content. Some art assets have been made to fulfill such dark desires and pleasures deeply coded in everyone's DNA.







Meanwhile, just some random other content:
We now have chickens in the game.


They can lay eggs. They can be slaughtered for meat. I don't see why not to have them.

Maybe humanity shall not fear monsters. Monsters shall fear us. Because humanity is more than capable of doing things more horrible than monsters.
