You're tasked with keeping the production of mysterious toys going at any cost. Your many tasks include keeping the boiler at a good pressure, making sure the steam engine drives the machinery at the right pace and keeping the machinery itself in working order. All whilst your boss constantly keeps an eye on you.
Displease your boss in any way and this will be the last day you did anything, ever.
Can you deal with the stress of working for this monster?
This game is currently in Early Access, though it is mostly finished and fairly bug-free. I have already gotten feedback from some friends that helped test this, but I always like to take some extra time polishing things and get more feedback from more people before going full release.
Aside from that the funds for the ItchIO Early Access release will go towards getting the game published on Steam and to allow me to continue to work on games full-time. I do have further plans for Keep It Running, such as a second game mode in which you need to deliver the packages you made with a steam lorry and possibly a co-op version of the game for Steam.
Play time is currently 1 to 2 hours, excluding the Custom Day which allows for endless replay.
Minimum:
- i3 dual or quad core
- At least a GTX750ti or equivalent, 2GB of VRAM
- At least 4GB of RAM
- Windows 10, 11 or Linux
The game runs well on the Steam Deck too and has support for joystick/gamepad controls.

It is time! KiR has reached version 1.0 and... has had some minor updates since too, making it now at version 1.0.2.
The game's finished and should be bug-free, but I'll very likely release some small patches here and there in the coming month when more people play the game and give feedback :)
I'm looking forward to seeing your streams and videos, make sure to share them! :)
And don't make a mess of things like I did, the Boss hates it:
For the future Steam release I plan to add the "Deliveries" update which includes a second game mode in which you have to drive a steam lorry and deliver the packages you've made in the factory.
I gotta make a map for this and of course the vehicle itself. The controls will be very hands-on as you are familiar with in the game so far i.e. you have to manually control everything with the mouse. Steering, speed regulation and of course shoveling coal are all gonna be part of your job. Oh and... following the direction the Boss gives you as he sits next to you ready to murder you should you mess up!
No pressure, of course... ;)
Of course there's also still that idea for the co-op version called "Keep It Running Together". I am currently not sure if this will become reality yet, but I have started sketching out some ideas and started collecting photos of old factories and steam engines for reference. I want to factory to be rather big and nicely detailed for Together.
That's all for now, happy working!
The game has seen three updates already and I've gotten a lot of feedback which really helped me improve the gameplay and atmosphere. Lets see what has...
Releasing a little earlier as I've been able to put a lot of work into the last finishing touches. Got a lot of feedback too the past week, so with all...
Keep It Running is currently in closed beta and is set to release Feb 1, 2024.
