An unknown mortal named Gilgamesh has become a hero among his Sumerian brothers, they followed him and he became their king. The creator god An was fond of Gilgamesh and have blessed him for being "The most heroic and brave mortal spirit".
But Gilgamesh had a lust for life, and thus the lesser gods have told to An of his doings.
"Gilgamesh is a drunken and drink to intoxication every day!" But An was silent.
"Gilgamesh desires many women and had known no satisfaction for his lust!" But An was silent.
"Gilgamesh has built the tower of Babel and have challenged the gods sovereignty of the heavens!" But An was silent.
"Gilgamesh has declared himself a god and is seeking the life of immortality!" An was enraged, he stood up and cried "Gilgamesh is no longer my favorite, for he has angered me with his defilement. Prepare my chariot of war, and I shall spill the blood of his followers and I shall have his head on a spike. For I have created the Earth, and I shall also destroy it"
This is the intro "Tale of Gilgamesh" for the game. It borrows from the myth of Gilgamesh but it is not the same.
The game itself is set in a fantasy Mesopotamia era. That is, mythological creatures battle next to ordinary men.
Perhaps some people are not familiar with Mesopotamia, so I wish to elaborate on that.
Mesopotamia is a region in the middle east that was positioned on what is now Iraq\Iran. At 2000BC it was a fertile land that was bound by two rivers.
Mesopotamia is called "The Cradle of Civilization" since the people who lived there had the first cities in the world and invented many social and technological developments.
For instance writing, which was first used for commercial needs but later for many other uses.
In the early time of Mesopotamia, the most advanced metal that was used for tools and weapons was bronze. You can see from the sprite of the Sumerian that he is holding a bronze sword called Khopish.
This is a sword shaped as a sort of a sickle, but the sharp edge of the blade is exterior rather than interior.
Bronze was not very sharp and strong, so attacking using this sword was more done like beating with a big stick. Still, it is more efficient and sharp than a stick.
The mythology of Mesopotamia have similar story of many ancient\middle east religious stories. In fact, some later stories might have been adopted from earlier mythology like those of the Sumerians.
In the Sumerian Mythology, at first there was no earth. There was only the heaven and the underworld. At some point the God An have created the Earth. Very similar to many other religious stories.
There are numerous creatures and demons in the mythology, as well as gods and lesser gods. Many of the creatures are a combination of several animals.
For instance, there was the Griffin Demon, which is exactly the Griffin you know from modern RPG games. I am not sure if this Griffin was an inspiration later in Europe, but it looks very similar.
For the game I needed a mythical creature to replace the dragon snake, but I didn't have enough variety from existing mythological creatures. So I had to think of something on my own. I came up with this lion snake.
I am hoping to tell more of the background of the game. I am still working on the art, so I hope to have a "screenshot" soon. If I will be satisfied with it, I will starting animating the art and have something playable soon.
I really don't like Khopish. To curved to be at this position.
Well, I don't understand. The curve probably make it a better beater and less likely to bend.
Also, I should note that bronze was not forged like steel but rather casted into a mold. So basically they could do "any" kind of mold and shape, the only limitation is that if the sword was too long it would bend very easily.
So there was a limitation to the size and length of the weapon they could make.
I think it's impressive. You are doing very well, but on the long run this is a kind of rare game with everybody playing shooters and such. Perhaps, add a gameplay video to your next update, so we get teased enough to download it. Also: will it run on PC without any problems, or is it supposed to be played on Androids only?
The development began on PC, only after that I added Android support. So don't worry, PC will play as it ment to be.
I am not ready yet for a gameplay video, not with the new incarnation of the game. I want to present the gameplay when the sprites are ready.
Yeah honestly, I'm a fan of the subject matter. Keep it up, games like this are rare.
