nice work, looks surely promising. you might want to work on the particle effects once the flak impacts on the ships (unless thats the effect you are going for). Perhaps adding some sort of smoke to the flares would be nice.
It's all about functionality at this point. You make a good point though. We will polish those effects at some point. Personally I'd like to have some kind of smoke clouds hang in the "air" for a while, like real FLAK tends to do.

It's pretty much all programmer art for now. This feature is fresh out of my brain, can't get anymore raw than that. ;)
