Conquest of Elysium 3 is an old school fantasy strategy game. You explore your surroundings conquer locations that provides the resources you need. Resources needed vary much depending on what character you are, e.g. the high priestess need places where she can gather human sacrifices, the baron needs places where tax can be collected and where iron can be mined. These resources can then be used for magic rituals and troop recruitments. The main differentiator for this game is the amount of features and special abilities that can be used. The game can be played on Windows, Linux (x86 and raspberry pi) and Mac OSX (intel and powerpc).

I am unhappy when I see a review or someone posting about the game if they have not tried it in team mode. There is SO much to the game that way. Especially with switches on such as Common Cause and Cluster Start.

At the moment I am watching a Baron and Dwarf Queen team. The Baron wants the towns and the Dwarf wants the mines. The Baron puts PD units in the towns, and the Dwarf turns mines into colonies. The Baron is doing the exploring and the Dwarf is staying central building up to fight off invasions. They are working really well together.

Earlier I had a Witch and Senator kicking my tail. The Senator did a general well-planned expansion protecting the Witch until late game when the Witches major armies were ready.

Also Voice of El and a Priest King surprised me. I thought they would conflict by wanting the same resources. But El converted everything and took their tithe. Priests gathered slaves from the big towns. Both of them did it to their allies towns! The El could convert Priests cities without taking them, and the Priest could gather slaves from El's cities without taking ownership. And later on it seemed that Priest had the biggest city/towns but it didnt hurt El much since El was getting really kick-ass units from even little farms that the Priest wasnt interested in.

What combos are you guys seeing work well?

I have not played for a while, but I like your storied about teams that work well together. Indeed I almost always played against teams, believing it made it much more challenging.

Thanks. I just had another one. Baron and Burgmeister.
They want basically the same resources but almost seem to have an agreement. The Baron puts PD into every larger town claiming it for himself. And the Baron expands aggressively. The Burgmeister expanded slower and took all of the farms inside their mutual area turning them into more productive towns. And the Burgers armies were majorly hard to take out. If I knocked the Baron back, I ran into a halfling army protecting a sizable area about the Barons capital which of course kept generating troops for the Baron every year so that he could come roaring back out at me again.

OK another. If you see that Warlock and Witch are allied against you then FIND THEM FAST!
They have NO conflict! The Warlock only wants gems and some gold. And the armies are large but few. The Witch doesnt need iron so it doesnt need mines. It wants forests and swamps which can be a problem with some allies if they have many many units walking around in small batches (like El) but with Warlock that isnt a problem. So they cause no problems for each other. If you let them grow they will both turn into some kick-ass armies that are almost impossible to take out of the game (tip: if they do get that big avoid their armies and go after their capitals)

What is this PD that people keep talking about in relationship with the Baron? I am sure it's something simple but I am not getting it...

Sorry.
Its jargon from Illwinters other game. I dont even remember what it stands for. Province Defense? Basically its the local militia.
A couple of the Barons units, and the Baron, can recruit locals as town guards. Basically its free troops to guard the city. You cant take them with you so they stay behind. Very useful to be able to keep moving forward and not have to leave troops behind to guard.
