The weapon works like this, you fling the pot with the catapult. If it hits something like a wall or a plane it breaks and the bats come out. It can also be broken mid air by pressing [SPACE]. This makes it possible to fling the pot directly in the way of an opponent making them drive straight through the bats. When the bats come out of their crammed pot they want nothing more that to kill the first thing they see (or hear because they are bats). So that is exactly what the do.
This is what it looks like when the bats have found a target and starts ripping it to shreds. A clean shot where all the bats find the target often results in a quick kill.
