Imagine a world where the villages of humans were scattered along mountaintops, and the world below was completely blocked off by an impassible wall of clouds. In a world like that, advancements in air travel would precede both land and sea. This is the kind of world that Aero Empire is set in. In this world, the player can rise through the ranks, from a lowly gunner manning a turret aboard an airship to the commander of several airships, ordering the crew of your own airship and the captains of the airships in your squad. Aero Empire is a cross-genre game, incorporating elements of role-playing games, shooters, flight simulators, and squad combat. Production on the game started November 25th, 2008, and is scheduled to release by the end of 2010, and a potential sequel focusing on nation management may come later. The single player version will be free to download and play, with no restrictions.
Some images of snow and rain in Aero Empire, with snow accumulation on the airship and marketplace.
Hmm =/ The rain is awesome, but the snow looks like paint more or less .. It could use to get a little more thick, and volumized all over?
That may just be me, and because i just woke up, though .. Just the fact that the weather is affecting the environment is very impressive, nice job!
thats exactly what i thought
Right now, the snow is plain white (not even a texture), so that's why it looks like paint (it more or less is). Eventually, we will add a texture and a normal map which will make it look 3D and like it's actually piling up, and not just a dusting of white paint :) . As for adding actual 3D geometry, that could be done, but would be more complex (would require being modeled and placed correctly).
Nice to hear that Terra, have a cookie! - Perhaps you should have included that in the summary of the pictures, but hey .. Details.
Stupid question i know .. But why's the city platform floating? o.o It just occours to me, that all it needs, are some pillars underneath it .. But i assume that this is all WIP, and will be changed in the future?
Yes - both the mountain and snow textures are incomplete right now, but probably by the next update we'll have them included and it should improve the quality of the mountain and snow.
As for the city platform, it will eventually have some pillars underneath, like in this concept art: Indiedb.com . As you guessed, this is all wip - the pillars will be added by the engine to ensure that they correctly hit the mountain, I just haven't gotten around to coding that yet.
