It has a very simple feel to it, but some things don't seem to fit in with the art style. Some things are super simple with roughed out shapes and only a few colours (ie the ape), while others are noticeable smoother with more minute details (dirt, grass). It feels less like it was designed to go together and more like you had several artists make resources based on what they thought the game details would have. Id try to really define the style. -- Im rooting for you, we're all in this together. |

I would say you have some clashing styles. The monkey/gorilla is drawn in a style that brings my thoughts back to Amiga games like "Another World", while the dirt tiles are too detailed for said style. If you want to go with something like that you should reduce the complexity of the dirt and wood tiles and also work more on the color palette. Instead of having so many different colors as you do now (orange, brown, pink, green, blue, white, black, grey) you should pick two - three tops - and work with different shading instead. Take a look at this and you will get what I'm talking about: A more modern, this from Black the Fall Edited by: Nightshade -- - My portfolio |

It looks good, but feels broken at some points. I think you may be a bit lost with tile sizes, what was a big problem for me at start too. I recommend you start with NES-like tiles, which are 16x16 pixels. With that you can work better knowing you have a limited space and everything will feel from the same size. There's a good tutorial about how to make a pixel tileset: Youtube.com |
