Huzzah!

You read right! I'm looking to get back into music composition, and your looking for free music, so why don't I hit two birds with one stone and compose for you!

What I'm proposing is that in this topic, you guys can request music tracks from me, and I'll queue them up and get them done! My main goal here is to get back into composing for games, and improve my skills. Unfortunately if your looking for someone to create a whole soundtrack for your game and have his time dedicated only to you, then this service will not be for you. I'm looking to share the love around, and create music for people who just want a couple extra tracks, or maybe they still have a lot of work to do on their game, so a couple original tracks here and there as you make progress is what your after!

Alright, lets get to the details!

The Service
Use the template below to give me an accurate request. I can create either .MIDI track or an orchestrated Mp3/OGG. This is a public service, so no need to privately message me for the tracks, just post it here, I'll queue it up, and others can see the free service as well.

The Template

  • Game Name: The name of your game. If you have a topic for it, provide a URL!
  • Setting: The genre setting, and any additional information on the game world and theme.
  • Track Description: Details on where this music track will be used, describe the location, event or cinematic.
  • Atmosphere: Describe the location in detail. Please provide a screenshot if possible.
  • Keywords: Choose a couple of words to help define the track.
  • Inspirations: If you have any games or music that you'd like your request to be inspired from, please share them here.
  • Format: MIDI or Mp3

Rights
I retain all rights to the tracks I make. Only the person I make the track for is allowed to use it, and please credit "Beau Buckley". By requesting music from me, you acknowledge that you understand this.

Example Tracks

MIDI - RPG
Overworld
The Raven's Hall
Grand Parade

MIDI - Other
Downtown Streets
Cemetary
Haunted Sewer

MP3/OGG- RPG
Mysterious Forest
Winding Caverns

And finally, here is arguably one of my best pieces I've written. Unfortunately it took many nights, so my published quality in this thread might not match, unless you hit that donation URL below!
Enigma

Donate
If your happy with the free music I've composed for you, please consider a donation. Not only will it make me like you more, and make you feel good about doing so, but It will help me to continue this service, and put you above the queue (wink wink), should there ever be high demand for my free service.

Your music sounds good! :D

So far they are RPG music. My question is can you make music for action games, such as fast tempo music (what do you call it?) or boss music?

Dec 28 2015 Anchor

Of course. I'm up for making all genres of music, including action, fps, horror and sci-fi. Sadly I have little fps/action stuff to show off, but I'm very interested in expanding my work.

Here is a boss theme I made a while ago, but its an RPG theme...

Very Nice, they remind me a lot RPG soundtracks at the beginning of the 64/Playstation era.

Do you specialize in RPG music or do you branch out into our genres such as Old school shooters and adventure games (examples would be contra, metal slug, kirby)?

--

Im rooting for you, we're all in this together.

Dec 28 2015 Anchor

I guess I do specialize in RPG soundtracks. As I mentioned in my reply to DarkBloodbane, I am however open to working on all genres, and I'd value the experience gained if you wanted to request something a little bit different.

Something I have no experience in at all, is tracking (the chiptunes that you hear in old arcade games such as contra, and gameboy games). Sadly I wouldn't have the instruments or software knowledge to make that sort of music.

I've heard the boss music you showed above and I can feel the seriousness of the atmosphere from the music

Hmm... I'd like to ask you to create some music for my game. Give me time to make some shots :)

Sounds good! I almost started to think this great service wasn't gonna get any hits. Looking forward to put together some tunes.

  • Game Name: Code name "ApartmentZone" we still dont have a title.
  • Setting: You are stuck in an apartment fighting social anxiety and other depressions. Sounds bad but its a game about finding hope and fixing stuff step by step...more of a "experience" rather than game.
  • Track Description: Main theme. The title will appear and you will see the apartment exterior and a view of what is happening outside, how is the weather (raining, sunny, foggy, etc) this will somehow represent how the main character is feeling in that day. You can see from far the player smoking in the balcony. When press enter you will get this submenu and a view from the player as he watch the street and tose the cigar.
  • Atmosphere: Its a 5 stories apartment , old on the exterior made out of bricks but modern on the inside.

3331111Notepa2

  • Keywords: inspirational, motivation
  • Inspirations: Something like the tv show "the leftovers - the departure" where the music starts lullaby and kind of depressing but then as the music goes it starts to turn into a "ok, im good to go".
  • Format: Mp3

Very much apreciated for your time and work :D will five proper credits man. by the way, nice work!! and again thank you this is a really good help in our game to set up the mood. Have a nice day!

Jan 13 2016 Anchor

Sure thing Jetch, lets see how I went.

so I assume it doesn't need to loop. I took inspiration from "The Departure" and kept it about the same length. So from my understanding this will play at the start of the game/stage with a small cutscene as described?

I hope this is fitting, otherwise let me know what changes you need and I'll retry. :)

It fits perfectly! No loop, this is what i was looking for when the main screen with the title shows. You will get the tune and a view from the apartment where all the events will transpire. Just a simple start button will appear to continue and then you will be inside a room in the apartment. Again, thank you so much for this. Cant wait to put place it and show it back to you . Awesome work man!

Jan 14 2016 Anchor

No problem! Glad you like it! Hope to see it in game. :)

Hi, my name is Justin Smith. I'm the lead dev for Plague of Darkness (our indie take on the Destiny universe) it will be a SciFi FPS RPG.

I would love a nice track for the main menu, thanks for you efforts if you end up doing this for me :D best of luck to you :)

  • Game Name: Plague Of Darkness- www.indiedb.com/games/chapter-i-plague-of-darkness
  • Setting: Adventure throughout the solar system, visiting locations like: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and so on.
  • Track Description: To be used in the main menu, for background music.
  • Atmosphere: Dark, intense, orchestrated (violins, organs, etc.)
  • Keywords: Dark, intense, serious, Gentle, Violin, Quiet
  • Inspirations: Destiny, Halo, Skyrim

And kind of a subtle, intense feel if you know what I mean :)

Jan 14 2016 Anchor

Hi Justin!

I did my best to give it a shot. I used your inspirations + a few others like Mass effect to give it a very atmospheric and space theme. I've used a lot of pad and synthesized instruments. I did my best to make it loop but due to the instruments it isn't perfected. Personally I would recommend a fade in and fade out to make it repeat, with perhaps a small pause in the middle.

Hope you like it:

Alright, here's my request:

  • Game Name: GunBot, that's temporary name and I don't have page or anything yet
  • Setting: A small battle robot exploring a strange world. It can upgrade itself by buying upgrades with certain machines. I'm attempting to create a Metroidvania game here
  • Track Description: The track will be used in regular level. It will be played in loop
  • Atmosphere:
The level is a desert with broken giant black rods in the background

Ruins 1

Ruins 2

Ruins 3

  • Keywords: Adventure, spiritful (this area is the first area player will be)
  • Inspirations: The first area/map player enters in J-RPGs. Music used there usually is filled with adventure spirit and doesn't sound serious
  • Format: Mp3

I want player to be encouraged to explore the area and the music should do that :)

Jan 16 2016 Anchor

It's been quite interesting working on tracks that aren't all RPGs! Yours was quite fun, and a nice challenge to work on DarkBloodbane!

I hope your happy with it, the loop should be perfect too for you. :)

Let me know what you think:

I don't know if you can do battle themes, but here you go.

  • Game Name: Zadal's Quest
  • Setting: A fantasy adventure throughout a world threatened by a ruthless king.
  • Track Description: This would be a character battle theme for when you're fighting against him. Ignis is a calm and honorable knight with the ability to use fire during a fight, so I feel like the song should sort of reflect the fire and his honor.
  • Atmosphere: You'll be fighting against Ignis. He was Zadal's (the main character's) mentor and became a kind of father figure to him, but now they are forced to fight. They will be fighting on a cliff in the rain, during the fight the cliff will be brightened by the fire Ignis uses, turning the rain to steam as it touches it and lighting the very ground on fire.
  • Keywords: Emotional(I want it to remind you of the time before everything was bad, but then I also want it to sound like you have no choice and must fight. I don't want it to sound too sad, more resentful, like neither of the characters want to be fighting but they must.) Fire, Honor, Serious, Fast-Paced
  • Inspirations: I really like this song from Xenoblade Chronicles and had this playing while thinking of what to write here, so if you could take some inspiration from it that would be awesome. Xenoblade Chronicles - Unfinished Battle
  • Format: Mp3

Here is a quick drawing I did of Ignis

IgnisCLRLarge

You don't have to follow these exactly as I wrote them, I just wanted to give you an idea of what the fight will be like. I'm really bad with music, plus I never thought of what Ignis's battle theme would sound like, so please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Jan 17 2016 Anchor

Ah that music fits well, thank you itzkreator! :D

Can I ask another one? though give me time to get some shots

BTW in my game I can display music's composer and title. So for that music, what should I type for its title? and should I type 'itzkreator' as composer?

Jan 17 2016 Anchor

Of course DarkBloodbane, request when ready! And could you please credit "Beau Buckley"? :)

If you get it done definately shoot me a link so I can give it a play !

Drexanz, I'll do my best to find time tonight to do yours, else tomorow by the latest. :D

Alrighty, good luck and, again, sorry for my lack of musical knowledge.

Jan 18 2016 Anchor

Woohoo! This took a few attempts, I wasn't happy with my first 2 tries so I started again. I ended up taking inspiration from the video you linked me to, since I haven't done an emotional battle scene before. Anyway, I really hope you dig it, it should loop perfectly too :)
