Hi everyone, a couple of years ago a few friends and I started to work on an Indie game, a tower defense / RTS title for mobile. It was a long journey, and thankfully the game is nearing completion. Doing this title made us realize how difficult it was find all the skillsets we needed for the game. To complete a game, one needs programming, platform specific expertise, concept art, 3D modeling, animation, music/sound, and when the game was closer to completion, video editing skills and marketing know-how. The list just goes on and on. We certainly didn't have everyone we needed within our own network and finding others with the right skills was hard. So we created a new site, to help solve that problem - Teamstarter.net It's a completely free site, designed to help Indie devs connect with each other, and help staff up projects. We created a video to explain the concept - hope you'll find this site useful:

Sounds like a good idea: but by locking your members and project lists behind a sign-in, you're putting a barrier up in front of new visitors. The first thing I did was look to see who's on there - and I can't see anything! I'm not prepared to sign up just to see whether you have a community yet.

You obviously don't want to put all your user/project information front-and-center, but there's a compromise. Show me you have a community and I'm more likely to get interested. Show me a random selection of users, or featured users and projects, or at least some counts.

Take a look at what Upwork does - they don't give anything sensitive away, but they boast about their community size, let you browse top skills and display minimal user profiles on the home page. It gives a sense that there's stuff going on.

If you don't have many users/projects yet, put up a banner and say you're new and building the community. People appreciate honesty. Offer incentives, take down the sign-in, do everything you can do get a few thousand users registered.
