Hello, indieDB Community!
Welcome to the 3rd article about our in development game, Nata.
If you want to find out more about our game, check out our other articles on our indieDB page.
In this article, we're going to show you some of the games we took inspiration from to create Nata's concept, mechanics and setting's mood/vibe.
Market Research
For our game we took inspiration from several games, AAA and indie games as well, but these 4 were the most important to define Nata's gameplay and art-style:
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Important not only for the character's concept but also because of the game's crafting and inventory systems.
- Toem
Nata's camera was heavily influenced by Toem's camera (isometric and dynamic movement).
More technical information about these two games:
- Bear and Breakfast
Game core mechanics (resource-management related mechanics) and the game's fetch/delivery quests were really important for Nata.
- A Short Hike
The game's visuals, colour palette, mood/setting were a huge inspiration for our game.
More technical information about these two games:
Besides these 4 games we also took inspiration from: Stardew Valley, Minecraft, Disney Dreamlight Valley, Undertale, Cuphead, Ollie & Bollie: Outdoor Estate and much more.
But for the games mentioned above we took more specific aspects of those and adapted to our, for example:
