Game Maker is great for any aspiring game designer. It provides a simple way to learn the basics of how code works via little drag and drop icons.
Of course it's also powerful enough to utilize a full coding system, and make it really easy to use.
I like it, but I'll probably end up swapping to Unity soon to start making games to release.
i relay like game maker because it's simple to use at first, and you can make any game with it, also you can do any thing with coding(that's one thing all the cheep beginner engines don't have). so i highly recommend game maker for any one who wants to start making 2d games, and any expert who wants to make 2d games. it's the only engine that i know of that both beginners and experts can use.
I find 3d games annoying to make, I made one mistake and screwed up my game... :( oh well, back to autosaves...
