Post news Report RSS Sword Art Online Inspired Project Begins!

The first article for Saber Art Online; Pre-Alpha testing, development, and much more discussing the development of 3 weeks.

Posted by on

Hey everyone!

I’m happy to announce that the Closed Pre-Alpha has begun! That being said, there isn’t much in the game yet but I’m slowly adding stuff as people request and fixing bugs that are stopping people from enjoying the project.

Things like an options/settings menu is to come soon in the new 1.1.0 version and a bunch of minor changes to allow better testing for players.

Keys will be distributed randomly and in giveaways, you’ll have to follow our Facebook or our YouTube to stay up to date with the giveaways, we’ll even give a few keys away here right on IndieDB!

We hope we can make a game that everybody can love and contribute to, so any feedback is appreciated, it helps a ton even if you’re not in the Pre-Alpha. :)

Also sharing the project with your friends, family, and maybe your dog/cat is a lot of help! We need as many people to help out with providing feedback and ideas so sharing via facebook or any other media site is great.

We hope to see you soon in the Pre-Alpha, many things are to come, if you want to see some semi-updated stuff that is to come, you can check out the Public Trello.

Development

So many things are being added into the project, things like an options menu, quests, NPCs and much more will be going into development soon.

Models have been the main focus at the start of the project, so that means half of the centre area is mostly complete; a ton of props and final details need to be added, and a bunch of stuff to fix repetitive buildings, but it's looking great so far!

Weapons have also been modeled, a couple fans wanted to submit concept art so I actually modeled their weapons, they are currently in the game and they look great!

The User Interface and User Experience for SaberAO follows a strict "immersion and 3D" feel, instead of UI being in the 2D space, I like to put it in the 3D world to make it seem more immersive and like the player is indulged into a VR space (the project is not VR compatible, but I want it to feel like you're actually in the world). So even the Main Menu follows that strict guideline, here's a picture of the quit button with animations!

Thanks for reading up on the first article for Saber Art Online, if you enjoyed looking at this article, feel free to follow our IndieDB page and our Facebook!

We hope you enjoy your evening, and we hope to see you soon in the Pre-Alpha of Saber Art Online!

so few questions mostly with the crafting system can we design the look of each weapon and armor the way we want to or is the craftting just going to be you hit the craftting material and boom weapon/armor cause i would find it better if we could design our own weapons and armor that way no 1 set of armor and weapons look the same and everyone has different crafts

I'll have to look into it. Colours can definitely be changed possibly, but I have yet to look into development of clothing/armor.

Thanks for the suggestion!

There are lots of SAO inspired projects around, but this is the most promising so far.
