Very long overdue update. Here's what we've been up to in the last few months
But first a brief video with the dungeon mission, played by a first time player
So, what we've been up to
We got into Indie MEGABOOTH for GDC around January, if you're not familiar with what IMB is, IMB is an amazing organization/group of people of game developers(~ish) that arrange booths at big events like PAX (East/West/Prime) and GDC, it then selects indie games and lets them purchase space at the booth for a silly price, and helps you out in other ways like contacts and information. What incentive do they have to do this? Far as I can tell, because they want the title of most awesome people in the world, which they fully deserve. Check them out here Indiemegabooth.com
The GDC experience was *amazing*, we learned so much and met so many people. I think it pushed the game months ahead of where it would have been without it, in subtle and not so subtle ways
Very practically, because contacts value is hard to "value", at the very least we got a huge amount of feedback, especially for the first tutorial mission of the game - on the first day showing there, few people even got past it. After showing the entire day, we went to our hostel at 6pm and worked on the issues people were getting stuck on, and set a new build for the next day. We repeated this process every day (except the 3rd where we just collapsed from exhaustion), and by the last day 100% of players were getting past the tutorial with plenty of energy to do the next mission (dungeon). Here's a video of what it looks like now
Since GDC we've been in touch with a bunch of publishers and contacts made there. More on that soon
Fantasy XCOM! Yes please, I'm buying!!
