Welcome to Friday Update #26!

Happy Halloween everyone! We have an exciting update, Facial Expressions!

A night of fright and fun for everyone! But why are you reading this? Shouldn't you be out there getting candy? Whatever your reason, thanks for making time in your busy day for us.

This is a feature we've been pushing for from the start, and thanks to our fantastic coder Ryokeen and brilliant artist Super Vegetto we were able to make it a reality and share it with you guys! Even though it's not a groundbreaking feature in terms of game play, we believe this eye-candy feature will add even more spirit into this project.

So, sorry to keep you waiting, here's your video!

The facial expressions system works by utilizing scripts. Each character has their own script file containing bone data, as well as textures, animations and sound data. Each can be called out as an event, attached to any animation or command. We can also control the timing, fps, loop, length, etc. of any expression. We made sure that there are enough bones to manipulate the face properly, and even reached the limit of bones available to achieve that. The facial animations are divided into two parts: The eyes and mouth. Each eye and mouth animation is saved separately and is called out through events in-game. This allows us to create all kinds of crazy combinations while staying accurate to the source.

Imagine the possibilities. Combined with instant textures swap and sound timing, the results are pretty complete. Each character will have facial expressions for all kinds of actions, be it jutsus, taijutsu, stun, block, you name it.

You need to start charging people each time they say it. Be v. rich, v. quick in seconds.

The expressions are so true to the anime :D
Will some the expressions only happen when action happens around/to the character or is there a console command for, say, stick your tongue out at another player?

Würde dieses "System" auch in andern mods klappen.

Weil bei dieser mod wird ja dann auf die chars wert gelegt und "die welt" also die maps eher spartanisch sind.

Es wär cool wenn ihr das evtl mal opensourced oder so :D
wär geil das in spirit einzubauen ^^

Looks brilliant... a lot of hard work and effort into the whole animations system, not to mention the custom coding for all of the effects you guys are putting into it.
