Magic in History: Part I

Realizing the danger now posed by najiros who misused their power, the Seven created the order known as the Vanguard (then known as the Vresometh or Ordas). The Vanguard was dedicated to teaching najiros to use their abilities while also teaching them in moral and right use of their power. Another function of the Vanguard was to combat the evil use of magic. However, not long after the founding of the Vanguard, new complications arose that would bring much division and controversy to magic.

Not long after magic was created, the appearance of the jevrethor shook Althas. Having been born with innate knowledge of magic’s workings and great strength in its use, the jevrethor quickly became the center of debate as their unique abilities - which were available to them at a young age - led to many incidents. In the North, where magic had been misused often during the Interregnum, the jevrethor became the focus of debate and often cruel study as many perceived them as a very dangerous threat.

When the Vanguard learned of their existence and their mistreatment in the north, they confronted the northern Kings. The ensuing debate divided the kingdoms of Driesefair, Lamniemalos, and Gorandel against Anorthile, Nosmalos, and Vishethas. The Schism, as this was called, nearly brought the Anointed to war against each other at several points. In the North, the Jevrethor were subject to study, experimentation, and severe prejudice.

These tensions and injustices culminated in the Ironrend Massacre, an uprising of jevrethor led by Unrád in Driesefair and Gorandel that caused great destruction. Ironically, it was a force of jevrethor who stood with the Vanguard who stopped Unrád’s onslaught. These events caused Gorandel to recognize the error of their prejudice and lead Lamniemalos and Driesefair to do the same.

However, the healing of the Schism could not remove the stigma burned onto the jevrethor, who were now known as “weargas,” the cursed ones. King Fevron of Lamniemalos, having refused to change his stance against jevrethor, was forced into exile, founding the new island kingdom of Lambitelor, a haven of prejudice.

It's getting hard to remember all these names, terms, and groups. Lol but again, not bad. What will be the focus of these specials after magic is done?

You will have to wait and see. And I apologize for all the terms. I have been trying to keep it limited but a lot of these were kinda necessary.

So if we as a player could use magic will we have to be wary of how we use magic if we chose to go to Lambitelor? Will we have to fake a warrior, archer, rogue, knight, etc to not upset the authorities? I think it would add the depth of the game.

Well the last post will clear soms things up on that specific scenario. However, I will say that there will be various reactions to the use of magic in various regions. Some may welcome it but others decidedly won't.
