Short article about the announcement and development of Project Drive, more specifically, some moodboards as well as some visions for the future of the game.

Hello Everyone!!


This is the first article for our game Project Drive.

Keep in mind that the name "Project Drive" is temporary and will almost certainly change in a near future.

Project Drive is a Beat ‘Em Up set in a western Sci-Fi industrial world. The theme and art style work together to create a rusty looking environment with lots of scrap metal. This will be achieved using “dirty” textures and low-to-mid poly assets.

In the game, the player controls a bounty hunter making his way through hordes of punks, reaching a boss at the end.

The game is heavily based on the player’s skills and reaction time as well as speed to give an input at the right timing. It will rely on parries and dodges to stay alive and attack in the windows of opportunity between the enemies attacks. The player needs to be focused most of if not all of the time.


On this next section, we will talk about some moodboards revolving the main assets of the game so you can picture our ideas and concepts. All of these were made to fit the theme and art style direction we envisioned.

MainCharacter

  • This is the moodboard for our main character - A robotic cowboy appearing to be made out of scrap metal in a makeshift way.

MainWeapon

  • This is the moodboard for the main weapon used by the main character - A Revolver heavily inspired on the Colt Phyton model with a futuristic twist.

Area1t 1

  • This is the moodboard for the first area of the game - A abandoned looking western saloon that is being used to day as they used to be.

Area2

  • This is the moodboard for some other areas - We are planning on using only interiors for the level design, and in this case, the inside of an abandoned factory.

MeleeEnemies

  • This is the moodboard for the melee enemies - A robot with a sword or fists to rush our main character and try to kill them with physical combat.

RangedEnemies

  • This is the moodboard for the ranged enemies - Yet another robot, but this time with a rifle, being able to stay away and still inflict damage to the player.

Boss

  • And finally, this is the moodboard for the final BOSS - A heavier enemy robot with a much larger body and health pool, meant ot be the final challenge of the game.


And this is it for the moodboards today.

We started development about only a month ago, therefore we only have studies to show, but stay tuned because every week we will post an article regarding game updates and news from Project Drive.
