I'd have to agree with you on this one. In this particular scenario, having a human chasing the player is scary because of all the questions it raises. Who are they? What are they doing here? Why are they hostile? Not knowing any of the answers is what creates fear. If it's an intelligent human being, that means they have to have some reason or motivation for attempting to kill you, and that's much scarier than a mindless monster.

Kinda reminds me of the MediEvil soundtrack, and in a good way.

I think the sleeves on her arms could use a bit of work, but looks good otherwise. I'm also quite glad to finally see a proper lighting engine in Half Life 1.

I think I mentioned before that I'm excited to hear more of Muddasheep's music. He did an awesome job in Half-Quake, and I'm really glad to know he's helped out with this mod.

Wait, Muddasheep's doing the soundtrack? Oh, hell yes. His work on Half-Quake was awesome. Man, as if I needed yet another reason to look forward to this mod.

Unloved was pretty awesome, although it had some stupidly hard sections (spawning two Arch-Viles at the other end of a hallway filled with dead monsters? Really?). Still, it was fun and somehow managed to be pretty damn creepy for a Doom WAD.

I got excited when you said that the sequel was out, since I didn't even know about it, but it seems that only the first beta is available, which only contains roughly the first half of the game. Bit of a let down, but at least now I know it's in development. I need to start keeping track of WADs again.

Of course, I WOULD ask that before watching the videocast and getting the exact answer. Disregard it.

Is the co-op going to have different levels, or will it be the same campaign as the normal single player mode? Sorry if this has been answered already, I didn't see it anywhere.

Did you code that lighting, Minuit? Because it looks sexy as hell.

He said so in the "Making of Afraid of Monsters" video. He even showed his DICE employee ID on his lanyard.

Anyone who claims Team Psykskallar is greedy does not know the definition of the word "donation." It means you're voluntarily paying them as a means of support when you don't have to. Whether you donate or not, you will still get to play Cry of Fear; by paying the modders for their work, you can get some extra screenshots and videos that you would see anyway if you just ******* waited to play the damn mod yourself.

Let me make this point: if they had a donation link at their site and didn't offer extra stuff for the donators, the jackasses calling them greedy probably wouldn't say a word. Team Psykskallar doesn't owe anyone anything; the mod is free, so quit bitching.

Having said that, I'd like to say that I anticipate Cry of Fear more than most of the high-profile titles being released this year. Sure, Battlefield 3 looks good and all, but I'll take this mod any day. Wait, Andreas got a job at DICE... NEVERMIND THAT RUMPEL, I'M TOTALLY BUYING BATTLEFIELD 3 DAY ONE I SWEAR >_>

Hey, have you seen the AoM: DC playthrough videos on Youtube with the subtitles? They're done by a guy named "Jetsetlemming." His videos are hilarious, especially if you've played the game - I can only imagine what you'd get out of it since you're the one who made the damn thing. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to trying to unscramble those friggen letters for the fourth ending.

I've got one final problem: the fourth ending. I loaded up a save just before I got the third ending and backtracked to the black door. Here's the issue: I put in all of the numbers I found, but nothing happened. Oddly enough, I actually found 11 numbers, not 10. Inputting all of them still did nothing. I then tried to use the letters above the numbers as a code - assigning each one a number based on their position in the alphabet. This didn't work either, although I'm a little unsure about one of the letters. If someone could send me a private message with instructions or at least a hint, it'd be greatly appreciated.

No, I didn't - I thought you had to just run past them, since there's like 8 of them. I'll give it a shot.

ruMpel, you've singlehandedly created the scariest game of all time. Doom 3, Silent Hill, System Shock 2 - none of those or any other games can hold a candle to the combination of atmosphere, sound, lighting, and, perhaps most importantly, character animation. After playing this, no monster will ever come close to scaring me the way those zombies do. The sound they make and the way they move is absolutely genius in instilling fear. Congratulations and bravo. Not Stephen King nor Alfred Hitchcock or even George A. Romero has got anything on you.

Alright, I've got another problem. I'm at the part in the forest where a huge number of zombies rush you in an open field and you have to find the button to open the gate. Once I hit the button, it shows the cinema for the gate; however, as soon as I press anything, it loads up my last quicksave. If I don't press anything, it just keeps staring at the now-open gate. Any ideas?

Well, I got the DC version, and I'm stuck. I'm at the part near the beginning where there's some electrical wires that I need to get past. I've gone everywhere I can think of and I can't find a key, lightswitch, or anything. Is there anybody who can help me?

Okay, sorry for the triple post, but I just have to comment on this mod. Let me start off by saying: Doom 3 has got NOTHING on this. Even Silent Hill, one of the best horror games I've ever played, does not compare to the terror Afraid of Monsters inspires.

I mean, AoM takes darkness and fear to a whole new level, as well as difficulty. Those zombies move MUCH faster than I thought they would (first one I saw nearly killed me). The fact that their heads jerk around does not help either (then again, depending on your perspective, it does). The lack of ammo also adds to the danger factor. And those faces and people that appear out of ******* nowhere and then disappear? Yeah. I nearly crappd myself when I saw the one in the back alley.

I might comment again once I finish the game (if I can ever bring myself to do so). Right now, though, I can easily say that this is the scariest game I've ever played in my life. Hell, it's the scariest thing period. It's also one of the best mods I've ever seen. The detail on the weapons (especially the pistol) is incredible. When I first saw the trailer for it at the top of the page, I could have sworn it was a Half Life 2 mod.

Overall, ruMpel, I believe that the current English language cannot properly express the sheer awesomeness and horror that is your mod. You ought to be making horror games commercially in the actual game industry.

Heh, nevermind. I guess it really was unavailable.... or something. I just tried to run it again, and it started up just fine. I'll comment later once I've actually played the game.

Alright, I registered just so I can get some help and play this mod.
Anyways, I've get the folder set up in my HL directory, and the mod shows up on the Steam games list. Here's the thing: when I try to run AOM, it will start to launch it, then say that it is currently unavailable and to please try again later. This makes no sense to me, as I've already installed it, so I don't understand why it would "unavailable."

Anybody have any ideas as to what the problem is?
