So it's a holiday, when you don't have to work much, but can't party out much either?

actually no we party harder in ramadan :D
and we work as any other day in the year.
But you don't drink...
Or perhaps I'm just looking from a wrong perspective :S
you are missing the big picture this is supposed to teach patience,endurance and for the more fortunate see how some of the less fortunate people live.this month is all about worship and being good to people as it's against the fasting principles to: get angry,to follow your lust and to use foul languages.so everybody is extra nice to each other in ramadan :D
and relatives visit each other more frequently and i love my huge family
and charity is a huge aspect of ramadan you by giving a pound to a poor man you make his day a whole better and in ramadan people give out a whoooole lot more making a good amount of people very happy.
tl;dr people get very happy in ramadan.and that happiness is what fuels us for the rest of the year and believe me fasting is no big deal actually people tend to work harder and better when fasting.
