Network play over VPN can be a little tricky, though with the LAN patch it is possible (BTW it's not a TCP/IP fix :) ).

BTW, Borg didn't actually make the patch. It was created by Underst0rm many many years ago. But basically all it does is switches RA2 and TS's default LAN protocol from IPX to UDP.

How well that works will depend entirely on your setup. Some software is better than others at achieving this. What VPN solution are you using?

My first recommendation if you're on Windows would be to increase the interface metric of your VPN adapter. On Win 10, go to Settings -> Network and Internet -> Change Adapter Options. Right click your virtual VPN adapter, hit Properties. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 and hit Properties. From there click Advanced and uncheck "Automatic Metric" at the bottom. Enter a low value such as 1, and click OK through all the windows and close everything. This will tell Windows to listen/check for connections through that interface first and should give you the best chance at getting a successful VPN connection.

Hope that helps!

Hi Borg, I know you're not up to modding too much these days, but I wanted to bring something to your attention. A mod has cropped up over the last year or so called Red Alert 2: New Horizons, and upon close inspection it is absolutely clear that it is a direct rip of your Red Alert 2: Apocalypse mod, specifically appearing to be v3.3.000

Moddb.com

Its creator, Lee3y, claims to have a direct, personal relation to you, and that he is using your mod with your express permission. Can you verify his claim?

Hey there, I haven't done this myself so I can't say if there are any "gotchas" to trying to run the RA2 campaigns in Yuri's Revenge, but theoretically you can do this by extracting a few files and re-naming them.

I have two theories on how you could do this: A really easy one that might not work, and a harder one that most likely would work. Try the easy method first.

Method 1:
1) Grab XCC Mixer from Xhp.xwis.net, run it and go to File -> Found -> Red Alert 2 -> RA2.mix.
2) You'll find a few .mix files in here. Open local.mix
3) Scroll down a bit and locate battle.ini (the file that defines all the missions and their filenames). Right click and extract it to your Red Alert 2 install directory
4) Find that file in your install directory and rename it to battlemd.ini

Theoretically the above steps are all you would need to load the original RA2 missions instead of the YR ones. If that doesn't work, try the more in-depth steps below:

Method 2:
If you're still using disc copies of the game, you'll have to extract maps01.mix and maps02.mix from the Allied and Soviet discs, respectively, and drop them in your Red Alert 2 install directory (if you're using the TFD or Ultimate Editions, these are already included in the game's install directory). Once extracted, grab XCC Mixer from Xhp.xwis.net and crack open the maps0X.mixes, and extract all "all0XX.map" and "sov0XX.map" files directly to the game's install directory. Once extracted, rename them all and add "md" to the end of all of their file names, for instance the first Allied mission would become "all01tmd.map", and the first Soviet mission would become "sov01tmd.map"

Extract the original battle.ini per the steps in Method 1. Rename it to battlemd.ini.

Now open battlemd.ini and look for every section named [ALL01], [ALL02], [SOV01], [SOV02], etc. In these sections, look for the "Scenario=" flag and you'll see the filename of the map file you just changed. Add the "md" to all of these filenames, just like you did to the files themselves in your install directory.

That should, in theory, result in loading all of the original RA2 missions in Yuri's Revenge. Again, can't say if there are any more "gotchas," but that should get you in the right direction. The rest will have to be trial and error.
