Nothing to see here, move along... Just kidding, I'm a lover of gameplay. I don't care about graphics, just so long as I can see it. Even though I suck at them, I like roguelikes and any game that provides a challenge (which, due to my skill level, is most games). I study English, mess around with programming (LISP and C++ mainly), play a lot of guitar, and generally just enjoy myself.

Any interest in just playing a daily turn game with me through bugs, crashes, and what ever else. Seems the other players dropped away, but I'm still down for a game and still have a server. If you agree, I'll throw a new game and we'll have some one vs. one and I'll keep debug logs.

deadfolk found it, but just for the community's information: the manual can be found in PDF form in the doc folder after you have untarred Dominions 3 (at least in linux, not sure about other OSs).

Here are the system requirements by the way. I forgot to also mentioned I have an Intel Core Duo (so no AMD, but as far as I know there's no reported problems).

System Requirements
The game can be played on Windows, Linux and Mac OSX and does not require a very new computer. A 5 year old computer should be able to run this game without breaking a sweat. About 500 MB hard drive space is needed and your computer needs at least 512 MB ram.

Windows:
Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Linux:
Both 32 and 64 bit builds of Dominions 3 are provided
OpenGL capable graphics card required

Mac OSX:
OSX 10.3 or later
Both powerpc and intel CPUs are supported

I have been playing it on Debian 6.0.6 64bit without any problems.

I agree with Gandalf about how geared the game is towards solo play... but if you can find a friend who takes their turns in a reasonable amount of time, I think this game is a huge blast multiplayer (moreso than singleplayer in my opinion, even though I originally bought it for SP). I've had some MP games that had me on the edge of my seat and where the tide of battle was turned by smarts (or lack of using them).

My full review is here (and it is very honest): Metacritic.com

Are you both running the same version of CoE3? (sorry this is so late, you probably fixed it by now).

Did you try running it with -d or -dd debug switch to narrow down the problem (it should give info about what's causing the crash or freeze)? Also, what OS/distro are you using? Additionally, did you use desura or the standalone installer?

I really want to answer your question, but can't do so since I haven't played AoW. Have you tried the CoE3 demo yet to see for yourself? I would also compare two different reviews of the games to see how they measure up (although after doing a search, reviews seem to vary on both games). Sorry to not be more helpful.

I would say if you enjoy strategy mixed with surprises, mythology, and TBS games, then it's a good bet you'll enjoy CoE3. Plus, it's being constantly updated, so it seems headed in a good direction for the future.

I think that, given some time, a singleplayer campaign is possible, especially due to the new modding and scenario commands that are going to be released in the next patch. Just give the community and developers some time :)

Yes, you can in Linux Debian just fine. That way you can chat on IRC while playing multiplayer.

I'll second that. Also, this gamed is ranked 2 out of 5,780 in the Desura statistics. Keep up the good work.

For all those people that throw caution to the wind, come join #CoE3 on irc.gamesurge.net and make your first game against the AI a multiplayer co-op that is sure to be pretty crazy and probably memorable. No promises though.

Gandalf Parker has even kindly created a map for this event.

Everyone make sure to click the install button for CoE3 at the precise time it is released. Make everything overload, grind to a halt, and crash

For now, I believe that is the case.

This video was posted some time ago as a teaser. People who played CoE2 would be able to understand a lot about what is going on, but recently the game has started getting reviewed, and there have been a lot more detailed videos (as you mentioned).

After a long recess from Dom3, I'm looking forward to this and am on board (hello to all the Dom3 players). Love indie games, and I think these developers do a fine job. Now I hope I can find time to play...

Hope the AI is hard as hell so that I lose often (and quickly). That way I can consider it a coffee break game.
